True Blood 1x11 Review
To Love is to Bury
• Sookie pointed out to Sam that Bill had to have felt her terror and the danger she was in, because of their blood bond, but he didn’t come and I didn’t even think of that. Man, Bill was really having a horrible night. Not only was he fighting to save himself, not only was he dealing with the horror of being forced to Turn Jessica but somewhere right around then he could also feel Sookie’s terror, knowing once again that she was in danger but helpless to do anything to help her. And then it gets worse. His little Fledgling is so unlike him and so hard to deal with; he makes a deal, owes a favour, to Eric in order to get back to Sookie’s side; and then to top it off he finds Sookie kissing Sam and then Sookie un-invites him from her house. Poor Bill. I really felt for him this episode.
• I have a feeling that Bill being uninvited from Sookie’s house is going to come into play in the next episode.
• “Why? Why? I want to kill them.” – Jessica. Heeeeee. I love Jessica. I mean this could get old fast but I loved her scenes in this episode. I found her hilarious in all her tantrum glory. This scene in particular was gold. Her shifting from glee to pouting to whining to laughter to throwing a tantrum – it was all wonderful to watch. I loved Bill being all ‘no killing! With power comes responsibility!’ and she’s all ‘you suck!’ (and then collapses into laughter). Hee.
I should probably feel sorry for Bill here, he’s got himself a teenager who hates him and a toddler that wants what she wants all in one, and I feel so sorry for him for everything else but it’s... it’s just so hilarious. His helplessness and confusion on how to deal with her and Jessica throwing her teenager/toddler tantrums, and Eric’s amusement... and I’m with Eric on this issue. It’s amusing.
• My thought when Bill was buried with Jessica was that at least when she woke in her grave, underground in the dirt, at least she wouldn’t be alone and that there would be someone there with her to help her. Only when the time actually comes around Bill’s not in there and she does have to dig herself out all by herself so what was the point of it?
• I loved the Bill/Eric/Jessica scene. It’s interesting to see Bill back down so quickly with a look, to look down, to plead. Hmm.
• I loved a lot about Sookie in this episode. I loved that Sookie decided to be proactive about saving herself. Upon learning something about the killer stalking her life she decided to act, to hunt him in turn. I loved her expression at the diner when the guy went ‘what kind of woman would do such a thing (carry on with a vampire)’ which made me laugh (and the way Sam instantly moves and touches her shoulder in restraint). I love Sookie using what she ‘overheard’ to get the information she needed at the police station. She was fearless about it too – now that her secret’s out in her hometown there is no reason to hide, nothing to be ashamed of, and she is going to own it now and it is so freeing. I love that. And I love this:
"My living room's wrecked, I've got a killer, a vampire and a shapeshifter on my plate. Right about now, I'm not thinking about being with anybody." Awesome.
• Sookie/Sam... I’m still not shipping it. I can see it – why it’s a good ship, why Sookie should pick him – and understand it – he really is this great guy, he’s other like her (not a different other like Bill), he’s good and clean (not surrounded by death and violence and blood like Bill), he loves her and respects her as she is... he is exactly who she should pick. He would be a great husband, she could happily spend a lifetime with him. I can see it. He would be loving and always have her back, and be respectful of her wishes, they could have children and sunlight and fun and laughter. There would be issues and arguments but they could be other together, and happy with it. And yet I don’t ship it. Hmm.
• Aw, darn. Rene’s the killer? I like him. That sucks. I hope it’s a misdirection but it’s probably not. The problem I’m having with Rene being the killer is – why? Not why he kills because who can ever know that but why Jason? All of the deaths have been centred around Jason. It’s someone killing off the women in Jason’s life. Jason is the reason and the goal. I’m not understanding it if it’s Rene whose been killing. Unless... he’s been framing Jason from the beginning? It’s never been about Jason but rather Jason was the convenient fall guy. He picked the perfect person – Jason who’s not too smart and sleeps around – and slakes his urge to kill on those around Jason, setting him up as the killer?
Adele’s death was the one that stands out though. It was the one that was different and I want to know why. I think it’s because her murder was the most personal of all of them. Her murder was full of rage – she was stabbed dozens of times. So why did she get so much more rage than the others? My thought is that it was because she was the old woman, the pillar of the community, the mother and grandmother who is wise and show’s you the right way – and then she welcomed a vampire into her home and into their town. She legitimised him, made him one of them (and thus no longer an outsider) which is a place a vampire is never supposed to be. Her transgression was so much worse – for both what she did and for whom she was.
• Lafayette confronting the senator was pretty awesome and not at all as embarrassing as I thought it would be. I was expecting him to turn up in all his glory but instead we get a suit (and boy does he look different) and a quiet whispered threat.
• Poor Tara. I don’t know what to say except that I wish she had turned to Sookie so much, and that I’m hoping the mysterious Maryann is a witch because that’s totally what this show needs. Also – I think there’s definitely hope for a reconciliation between Tara and her mom because despite all her harsh words Tara didn’t do the worst thing she could have – told her mother the truth.
• Also poor Jason, who I like more and more, and who is just so broken, and now thinks once again that he is a killer.
