Lost 6x13 Review

The Last Recruit

• I really loved the interconnectedness of this episode. How so many of our characters cross paths with each other - Locke/Sun, Sawyer/Kate(/Miles), Claire/Desmond(/Ilana), Ilana/Claire/Jack, Sawyer/Sayid, Jack/Locke - it all made me so happy.

• I was not pleased by Smokey beating down on Locke during his conversation with Jack. First with – “Because he was stupid enough to believe that he’d been brought here for a reason. Because he pursued that belief until it got him killed. And because you were kind enough to bring his body back here in a nice wooden box.” and then with “John Locke wasn’t a believer, Jack. He was a sucker.” Now he’s just being mean and spiteful. I adore Locke so this bugged me. I did love how in the same conversation Jack implied some... understanding for Locke with his bit about Locke having been the only one who believed in the Island. Oh, how, I wish they could interact now when Jack would be on the same side as him, and trust and believe in him.

• It was really nice to finally get a Claire/Jack scene with them talking about being siblings. It’s about time. It wasn’t everything I wanted but it was nice. I also liked the sideways meeting between them at Ilana’s office and I want more of both. Also on Island: I find it interesting that Jack has basically no reaction when Sawyer reveals that Claire tried to kill Kate. I liked him sounding Claire out about Not!Locke to see if she would betray them if he told her the truth. It’s also interesting that Jack doesn’t really do anything when Claire shows up at the boat. He just stands in the background while Kate handles it. He doesn’t even bother to say anything.

• The Hurley/Claire hug made me go awww but again I definitely wanted more happening between them and it would have been nice if Hurley was less awkward seeing her again and more pleased/happy.

• So Sun freaking out when she saw Locke beside her on a stretcher and saying ‘it’s him’ was her remembering the Island and Not!Locke, right?

• Ben not knowing Locke’s first name made me go all ‘ouch’ because I really want them to bond and be friends.

“You decided the moment you let him talk to you. Just like the rest of us. Whether you like it or not you’re with him now.” – Claire. Well, that’s ominous and really creepy.

• I loved Kate’s incredulous “Are you hitting on me?” to Ford. Does this mean we’re not getting Sawyer/Kate in this reality? I loved Kate trying to blackmail him.

• Wow but the Claire in the sideways reality has no self-preservation instincts at all does she? I mean getting back into the car with Kate after being held at gunpoint by her and then basically glomping on her and making her her BFF, and now we have her going along with Desmond even though he was honestly being pretty creepy (being too familiar and pushy with her) when she should have been telling him to get away from her.

• Ilana being the lawyer and Desmond’s friend was such a surprise but a really pleasant one. So I guess Desmond knew all about the will and that Claire would be in the building that day? How did he know all that though?

• So I actually didn’t think for a minute that Sayid would kill Desmond but I’m not sure I am buying Des’s argument convincing Sayid not to do it. Sayid was so lost that he killed two people and was integral in the deaths of dozens of others. Desmond asks Sayid to think about what he would tell Nadia about what he did to save her but at this point it’s a little late on that isn’t it? I mean what’s killing one more person after dozens? I don’t think it’s going to make that much difference. Does Sayid feel enough now to regret what he did?

• The Kate/Claire scene was lovely and really worked for me and made me go aww. But I love that despite refusing to give up on Claire Kate does take Claire’s rifle away because she’s not stupid.

“It doesn’t feel right. Leaving the Island. ... I remember how I felt the last time I left – like something was missing. ... This is a mistake. The Island is not done with us yet.” – Jack. Wow, someone is sounding a lot like Locke now. I’m putting my bet now on Jack being Jacob’s replacement.

• Sun/Jin finally reunited, after three years for them and a year and a half show time, and it made me go awww.
