Nancy Drew 3x13 Thoughts
The Ransom of the Forsaken Soul
+ Why wouldn't Nancy at least try to kill Temperance instantly with her hit? Instead of giving us a Thor/Thanos repreat. Have Temperance doing the spell, suddenly an axe chops through her neck, Nancy gets her line about blindspots as she looks down on Temperance's body - only for a butterfly to still fly off as Temperance's body dissolves. It would have worked a lot better.
+ That moment between Nancy and Ryan when he died was heartbreaking. She called him 'dad' for the first time! She was so destroyed by him dying. And then during the real timeline she orders him to lie down and painfully pulls something out of his neck and he just goes along with the whole thing because he trusts her that much. And then hug! I love them so much. I hope we get more of them next season than we did this one. I hope Ryan gets to hear her call him dad.
+ Ace and Nancy getting together was great. I loved him saying he had to get his jacket and then immediately backtracking (smart boy!) The sex scene was great. I loved them the morning after. Also Bess's glee over it was adorable.
+ Nancy not telling Ace about Temperance's curse is ridiculous. Nancy pushing Ace away harshly was infuriating. It's not like he's not well aware of magic, like the hell? I also had a moment of what the hell when she almost kissed Ace even though she knew it could kill him. Girl, get a grip. Just all around.
Despite hating the whole lying thing I did love/hate Ace's whole speech about being found lacking in her eyes and how he isn't anymore. It was painful and sad and well acted, and made me want to hug Ace. I also loved Nancy's teary-eyed 'you were never lacking' response.
+ Carson comforting Nancy was lovely and I love that he was the one she opened up to first. I did find it weird that Carson didn't immediately press her on specifics. Saying she 'lost control of her fate' could be literal with her!
+ I loved George walking into the station and flipping the sirens on herself.
+ I liked Bess becoming the new Keeper
+ I liked all the little changes made in everyone's lives/motivations by Nancy allowing the tsunami to happen.
+ I enjoyed the whole beginning cutting between the team chatting with Temperance to them frantically trying to figure out how to deal with her. Their plan was pretty good too if surprisingly murdery.
+ I'm glad they broke up but Nick frantically calling for George as soon as he saw the tsunami was a nice little moment.
+ I liked the little hint that Nancy/Park might not be completely done. (Her telling him Boston isn't that far and Carson and her talk about maybe there being two soulmates.)
+ This episode would have been better if it had been two episodes I think? One episode dealing with Charity and then ending on Ryan's death (drag that out more), or on the start of the one month later. The last episode showing Ace's death, revealing the Temperance mind-meld, and then expanding the end with where everyone currently was.
+ Ryan's death happened way too quickly and so little time was spent on it that I was immediately suspicious.
+ Bess finding a way to keep from needing to destroy one of the souls when using the soul-splitter and it being a throw-away line was annoying.
+ Nancy declaring that 'maybe we're a lot more alike then you think' is probably not that great of an enticement to work together considering Temperance's... everything.
+ Isn't Nick a millionaire? Why does he need to sell the engagement ring in order to get the money to fix the apocalypse hole?
