Jurassic World Dominion
Aug. 21st, 2023 11:25 pmI liked it.
+ It was wonderful seeing the original cast again and I enjoyed them a lot. I loved the three of them having each others backs. Alan and Ellie getting back together made me really happy. Ellie turning to Alan for help and him immediately agreeing was great. I loved Ellie and Ian conspiring together.
+ Alan's reaction when they found Beta, and helped keep her attention, was honestly one of my favourite scenes. In that moment I think he truly got his sense of wonder and awe back, and you could see in his expression just how amazing an experience he found it. I loved it. What a great end place for his character.
+ The fact that Blue chose to make her nest so close to Owen, and kept an eye on him the entire time, was wonderful. Loved it.
+ I appreciated Wu's redemption arc here. I'm very glad he survived and got a very satisfying end.
+ I loved Claire's chase through Malta by the Atrociraptor. A+ job on her part in escaping. Kayla coming in to drive the truck and help save her was great. Claire fighting while speeding through the city and clothes-lining the raptor was excellent. Enjoyed all of that.
+ Santos's offended "you don't use it on people" after Claire shocked her made me laugh.
+ I was happy about the return of Barry. I liked that he'd moved on to a good new job and I liked him and Owen still being friends.
+ I liked Kayla. I liked her wryness and competence. Every time she was on screen I was mesmerized by her eyes. So pretty.
+ The idea of elephants joining herds of ceratops makes me unreasonably happy, idk.
+ The Claire vs the blind therizinosaurus scene was very tense and I liked how it was shot. Plus I love seeing new dinosaurs I've never heard of and this one was really cool. I did find it's attack on the deer a little head-tilty simply because it wasn't making any noise when the therizinosaurus attacked it, and if it was able to find the deer on that little it should have gotten Claire during her escape.
+ I enjoyed the Owen and Kayla vs the ice raptor scene too. The raptor itself was very cool. Kayla's reactions throughout were great - loved her nope, loved her long scream while running, I was even amused by her pissy look when they got into the elevator and her shocking the raptor.
+ The shot of Owen falling into the water and the raptor swimming were great but I found it unbelievable that the raptor wouldn't have gotten him before he could be pulled out and/or immediately after he was pulled out.
+ I liked the reveal about Maisie's backstory and the truth of Catherine. I like that it was Catherine who was behind Maisie not her father.
+ There was surprisingly little death. I found it surprising lol. But I was happy there was so little dinosaur death especially in comparison to the previous movie.
+ The plot was meh, whatever. The main bad guy, meh whatever.
+ The dinosaur fight audience gathering around to cheer Owen's fight with Vegas while two massive carnivorous dinosaurs were loose right behind them did not work for me. Yes, people being distracted by the wrong thing is believable enough but not when it's literal carnivorous dinosaurs that can eat you running amok literally behind you!
There were a couple moments like that where I was left going 'I don't believe that'. The one that sticks out the most was the scooter guy not noticing the two giant dinosaurs surrounding him and getting eating. How do you miss giant dinosaurs! It's not even like he's in the narrow alleys, it's a wide open space. I'm pretty sure that as soon as they appeared there would have been screams/a commotion. Just sometimes the reactions to the dinosaurs rang false.
+ I wanted way more of seeing the world and how people have adapted to dinosaurs in their environments. I hope we can get a movie or tv show more about that and much less about plot and big actions scenes.
