Chapter 5: The Foundling, II

+ I'm loving Hong-ju. She, much like Rang, holds this outside demeanour of coldness (though hers is more aloof, his feral) but at their hearts they are really kind people who care.

+ I felt so bad for her during that entire scene with 1938!Yeon. To get for one moment what she's been chasing for centuries (Yeon's physical affection, to hear that he misses her and to never leave him again) and even though she knows it can't be real to get her hopes up for a second, and then for it all to crash down on her with Ah-eum's name. Ouch.

I was so sure she was going to take Yeon with her, or otherwise try and take advantage of a drugged up Yeon but her smashing a vase on his head and then walking out with her head up was pretty satisfying. I've actually been enjoying her aggressive crush on Yeon but at this point I really like her for herself and I want her to walk away on her own. To keep the friendship, the feeling of comfort, but to find someone who will love her back the way she deserves.

Her cheeky "fox-in-law" address of Rang indicates that she hasn't given up on Yeon but I with her being so torn with Moo-young, and the two Yeon situation I'm curious about how this is going to play out.

+ I loved her going back to help/save Rang.

+ This is a little random but I did find myself contemplating Hong-ju/Rang as a possibility. I think in part because of their similarities, in part because I adore both of them, in part because I think they'd be fun. IDK, a random potential this episode put in my mind.

+ I love that Hong-ju's weapon of choice is a giant claymore. It fits with her being the physically strongest of the gods (also something I love) and I just like the look of her carrying it around and using it on people.

+ I really like Hong-ju's relationships with her people. They're all completely loyal and devoted to her and you can see why because she's just as devoted back. Her petting Jae-yoo's hair after he declared his battlefield was at her side was adorable. I loved Orchid taking the blame to protect Hong-ju.

+ Yeon being so happy to see Moo-young and the hug was sweet, but wow do I love that he immediately guessed that he was the red-white masked man.

+ Yeon and Shin-joo were pretty adorable this episode. My favourite moment was Yeon linking arms with Shin-joo and walking off as they filled each other in on what was happening. Them spying on Rang and giggling together over his ‘dating’ was cute. I liked Shin-joo checking in on Yeon re: leaving Rang and Yeon being honest about how he doesn’t know if he can. Yeon rolling his eyes at Shin-joo crying at Mi-ho leaving but still hugging him to his side, aww. Yeon once again going “me? a former mountain god? I can’t do that” and Shin-joo’s increasing annoyance over it amused me. They were wonderful pretty much every moment they were on screen together.

+ The continued happy bubble fight at the beginning was fun. I loved Yeon getting all up in arms about germs. But my favourite thing is how the poor gisaengs ended up having to save themselves because our protagonists were too busy having fun.

+ Yeo-hee trying to force a date by using a wish to get Rang to the club with a bouquet of flowers and him 100% not getting it – LOL. So far I’m not feeling the potential romance here but as a comedy bit on Rang’s complete obliviousness and confusion about anything romantic I’m at least amused.

+ I'm a bit amused that Shin-joo spits out that he's from the future and she looks like his wife and Eun-ho is like 'uhhh' and ignores it. I liked their interactions and Shin-joo getting himself caught up in the resistance.

+ Most disturbing moment in the entire show - baby "Mi-ho" avoiding being shot by rolling and then jumping away. SO creepy looking!

+ It's interesting that Kato named Yeon as the most powerful non-human he'd met thus far. I wonder if defeating him is going to require the combined efforts of all three mountain gods and if he could be what brings them all together again.

+ I'm so curious about whether 1938!Yeon is going to have any role in this season. Are they going to leave him in an opium haze the entire time? I was so sure he'd be hunting down his look-a-like with Ah-eum information but nope. Maybe he thought he hallucinated the entire thing? Anyway I hope he has a role in the future because it'd feel like such a waste of potential to cut him out of everything happening. Plus is trying to save/help past!Rang to a better future, he should show a little self-love and help himself too.

+ Taluipa spoiling the end of the film, lol. Truly the most heinous act of all.
