A Korean Odyssey Episode 17 & 18
Feb. 11th, 2024 07:26 pmEpisode 17
+ Asanyeo's zombie boy plot got dealt with far easier and with a lot less drama then I was expecting. It didn't even devolve into a fight between Oh-rong and Ma-wang which I'm a little disappointed by. Instead Oh-rong yelled at him to stop being an idiot and that it was all a plot and Ma-wang believed him pretty much immediately. This is rather delightful for their relationship because it shows that despite any words he might say Ma-wang trusts Oh-rong so much and that's great. But I wanted more drama lol.
+ Even PK who's actions had me wincing over and going 'oh no' only got him a slap on the wrist! One of the days this is going to end so badly.
+ I really wish that instead of Oh-rong tackling this situation alone and separating himself from Seon-mi, and cutting her out, we'd gotten the two of them working together to come up with a plan.
+ Poor General Winter. He's looking rough. A little sad for him that none of the people in his life have been shown supporting him through this difficult time.
Episode 18
+ Seon-mi finally telling Oh-rong she loved him was great. I kind of love how she used it as a weapon to crack him drawing away, that she followed him and picked a fight and refused to give up on them. I loved for the first time she kissed him.
My favourite moment between them was this exchange:
Oh-rong: Shall I be polite?
Seon-mi: Be yourself
Heeeeee!
+ I was rather annoyed that the episode started with Seon-mi drunk and forlorn and then had her crying over her soup. So I appreciate that she spent the rest of the episode being proactive. ALL I wanted was for her to take action. I loved her confrontation with Asanyeo. I loved how confident she was and her reaching out to Bu-ja.
+ I loved Ma-wang missing Oh-rong instead of being able to enjoy his day off. I loved his gleeful decision that they had to help keep the monkey statue (and thus save Oh-rong) for the flow of his interior design. Not because he likes it, oh no. LOL.
+ I honestly do feel sorry for Asanyeo. She's made some terrible (murderous) choices, and her setting her sights on Oh-rong and then refusing to budge was the first terrible one, but she also got a really raw deal. What was done to her was cruel and, unless we're missing some important context, deeply unfair. I get her anger. It's hardly a shock that 1200 years stuck dreaming in a coffin would leave her achingly lonely and desperate for someone to trust and lean on.
+ PK really has seemed to have slowly gotten to Asanyeo. With him she is at her softest. And while PK's main motive/interest has been about Bu-ja it felt like maybe he was starting to care a bit for Asanyeo for herself. I've been assuming that his slow growing bond with her was going to pay out by 'saving' Asanyeo with her either choosing to help them in the end, or save Seon-mi, and/or sacrificing herself (and bringing Bu-ja back.) But with PK's understandable fury at the end I'm suddenly a lot less certain that's where they're going with this.
+ Ma-wang and Ji-young trying on the circlet Geumganggo was a fun scene. It seemed pretty clear that Ji-young's inability to not follow Ma-wang's commands was counteracting the effect of the circlet.
+ "We measured each other's strength in a gentle manner and... I walked away." - Ma-wang. LOL
+ So are these powers Seon-mi has be exhibiting really only ones stolen from Asanyeo? Because I got the sense that Samjang is supposed to have impressive powers but it could just be Asanyeo? Except I guess the exploding glass.
+ 'Give up on something dear to you'? The obvious object here is Oh-rong and her love for him but could it be something more like her desire for a normal life?
