Beyond Evil Episode 10
Jun. 8th, 2024 08:19 pmThis was such a good episode!
+ The acting in this series is great but was really phenomenal this episode. Shin Ha-kyun and Yeo Jin-goo were both amazing.
+ Chief Nam Sang-bae had so many death flags on him this episode that it wasn't a surprise that he died but I'm so sad. Hasn't Dong-sik suffered enough?! He absolutely sealed his fate when he confidentally told Dong-sik he would leave and retire somewhere nice and quiet.
+ Dong-sik visiting Sang-bae in the interrogation room and telling him he found Yu-yeon was painful and so well done. One of my favourit scenes of the series. Dong-sik struggling with his grief, and the realisation that finding her after two decades didn't somehow make anything better for him was heart-wrenching.
+ This was such a lovely episode for Dong-sik and Sang-bae (the other death flag). I really love that in his time of greatest emotional turmoil Dong-sik went to Sang-bae to talk to. I loved his anger when he thought Sang-bae had killed Jin-mook and thus Dong-sik would lose him too. I loved Sang-bae holding his hand and Dong-sik putting his hand over it. I don't know if the translation is perfect but the fact that Sang-bae has him as "my dear Dong-sik" in his phone made me awww so much.
+ Joo-won having that 'oh fuck' moment and immediately calling Dong-sik for help, Dong-sik telling him to be careful and how much that affected Joo-won, and then Dong-sik referring to Joo-won as his partner and worrying about him was all so wonderful. This is what I've wanted.
+ I felt a little cheated that Joo-won wasn't there in the aftermath of Yu-yeon's discovery. I wanted to see his reaction to Dong-sik's reaction. Dong-sik plays so many games which infuriates Joo-won but in that moment Dong-sik was completely open and sincere in his grief, and Joo-won absolutely reacts more positively to sincerity.
But then we get the amazing final moment with a regret-stricken Joo-won crying as he holds a grief-stricken Dong-sik close, as Dong-sik breaks down over Sang-bae's body and clenches at Joo-won's hand. Wow. That was so good. Love everything about that final scene. Joo-won getting to see, to feel, Dong-sik's open and truthful emotions is exactly what I wanted. The addition of Joo-won's guilt for feeling responsible for that pain - just perfect.
+ Whatever Joo-won thought he was going to accomplish by framing Sang-bae this certainly isn't what he thought he'd get. How appropriate that his decision to play the game by Dong-sik's rules immediately leads to a death - a thing that made Joo-won so very angry at him and led to him making the choice to be reborn in the first place. It's clear how guilty and regretful Joo-won is in setting this whole thing off and I'm hopeful in the aftermath he'll pivet, decide that no going by the law is the right thing to do and finally partner up to find the final killer(s).
+ Sang-bae had secrets obviously though his goal for the last 20 years appears to have been to protect Dong-sik and try to make up to him what happened after his sister's disappearance. What I desperately want to know is what the hell those secrets were that he thought he couldn't tell Dong-sik. Was he protecting someone else? Did he go there that night to catch a confession from the killer (hence pen) after seeing how destroyed Dong-sik was in finding Yu-yeon's body rather then at peace? I just want to shake him and demand that he learn how to use back-up. He's a police officer, for pete's sake.
+ Jeong-je has long seemed a likely suspect in Yu-yeon's death and his reaction to her body was suspicious as hell which made me suddenly very worried he did it. But his flashback convinced me otherwise. I still think he knows what happened to her and has been repressing it but he isn't her killer.
I am curious about all those bodies found in the deer field. Were they all Jin-mook's victims? The first one found definitely was but then we didn't get anything more on them. If so why did he choose that specific spot to bury them? A place where Dong-sik and Jeong-je spent so much time. Did Jeong-ji know about the bodies, does that have something to do with his obsession with drawing deer?
