9-1-1 Season 1 & 2 Thoughts
Oct. 18th, 2024 12:21 am+ Overall I liked the characters and their relationships. Nothing sticks out as 'I love' or ship but it's all likeable enough.
+ The romances are a little weird to me because for some reason they feel pretty - shallow? In some ways. idk. I feel like they don't get enough development/screen time I guess which leaves me often feeling like I'm missing a lot. They're fine but I'm not really attached. Of the bunch I'd say I liked Maddie/Chimney the best.
+ I liked Abby and I was sad when she left after season one.
+ Buck/Abby were sweet but I was genuinely shocked the show had him pining and in denial for like the first 6 episodes of season 2. Abby really should have talked to him rather then letting their relationship slowly fade and leaving him to figure it out. He clearly needed the heads up!
+ I liked the flashback episodes. The end of Chimney's made me cry even though I saw it coming.
+ Maddie not giving Doug a second wack with the fire poker instead of running away made me sigh. But I really liked her final fight with him and then her refusing to lie there and die, and forcing herself up. I appreciate that she saved herself.
+ Michael definitely did Athena wrong but I really like how he approached the situation for the most part. I really like that they are genuinely great friends who loved each other and want what's best for each other and their family. I love that both put effort in. Michael's reaction to her relationship with Bobby and him inviting Bobby in to family dinner the first time they met was lovely. I even like the little bits of his jealousy and how he deals with that. The friendship between Athena/Michael and the growing one between Bobby/Michael are great. Also Michael's glee at not having to deal with Athena's mom - lol.
+ Of the reoccurring characters 911 dispatcher Josh is a favourite. I really like his friendship with Maddie. Him bringing together some of the people she saved in order to prove that her work matters was a really lovely scene.
+ I feel like the show dropped the ball a little on Bobby and Athena's kids. We should have followed Athena/Bobby/Michael into that dinner and seen them meet Bobby. Or at the very least we should have gotten a more scenes between them all before the family picture scene.
+ Bobby's tragic backstory angst being that he accidentally caused an apartment building fire while high and it killed 148 people is a little wtf.
+ Eddie and Hannah not being a long haul couple wasn't really surprising but her death felt a little contrived. That said I did like that they didn't have it happen just as they finally got completely back together. Hannah pushing away (even if the divorce request felt too far) made sense based on their history.
+ 2x07's 'Haunted' annoyed me a lot when they found the bones, then found the injured man, and then upon learning that the injured man didn't make the 911 call immediately went to ghost of the dead man instead of maybe someone else made the call. Sure, Bobby later points out that it was probably a passing hiker but in the moment what if there had been someone else there? They didn't even look!
+ I was annoyed in 2x14 when the whole neighbourhood was on fire and people were injured and we had the firefighters standing around watching first Buck and then Eddie being heroic instead of you know actually doing something.
