I liked it.
I hadn't realised that this was a sequel to Searching. Much like that movie I really enjoyed the style and use of technology to tell the story. In both cases I found it very effective. I thought the acting in both was really good. I hope they continue this as an anthology series and in a couple years we get another story.
I really liked the friendship that sprang up between June and Javier, and that it continued past the main events of the movie.
I enjoyed watching June trying to piece things together. I liked her cleverness in finding different avenues to search. I had completely missed the spilled wine tell so that was a doh moment. Her ability to get into various accounts was frankly scary lol. She made it look far too easy. I loved that she managed to completely ruin her dad's plan via her search for her mom and her realisation that she never even left LA.
Once it was revealed that Kevin had an accomplise acting as the uber driver I was suprised that June didn't immediately think of Jimmy.
Heather wanting to protect June and Grace was great and all but I'm really shocked she didn't secretly go to the FBI regardless. I mean she's a lawyer who probably has a lot of experience in dealing with abusive men, she should have known she couldn't trust him. LIke, tell the police everything! Give them the abusive ex backstory and his name!
I love that in the end June saved herself and her mom via Siri. I loved the call back to her mom being obsessed with it. I like that it was possible because June had already discovered the hidden cameras and had it open on her computer. I also liked that there were different avenues of them being saved - Veena I'm sure called the police when she couldn't contact June, Javier I'm sure tried to pass along the information - but in the end it was June (and her connection to her mom) that saved them.
I am judging the police protection hard. You don't just leave! Even if she is planning to go you wait until she has actually left, and in this case probably they should have given her a ride to her safe house or followed her there. I reaise it was needed for the plot but it was so glaringly stupid.
My first thought after the reveal that Grace disappeared and had a mysterious past was that she was in witness protection after testifying against a bad guy and I was a little surprised that I didn't see that come up as a possibilty.
I get why June got mad at Veena but she also wasn't wrong that if this case wasn't one June was involved in herself she woud be suspicious and questioning Grace as well.
Grace lunging up to stab James with the glass after being shot was great. Good for her. Grace spending way too much time in freeing/embracing/explaining to June was less great. I was very 'you are running on a tight schedule, no time for any of this!' about it.
