Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs
Feb. 23rd, 2025 03:05 pmI enjoyed it.
I do wish that I'd reread Soul Taken beforehand because this book was very much tied up with the events in that book and as I was reading I realised just how much I didn't remember from it.
+ Mercy/Adam continue to be great. I like that as she is levelling up in power, so to is Adam.
+ I loved Coyote interceding to take advantage of the situation to heal/save Mercy. I really want to see Mercy interact with him more.
+ I can't remember if this was ever mentioned in previous books but in this one Mercy being Coyote's daughter giving her a 'spark of the divine' is interesting. Like it's stating straight out that she is a demi-god.
+ Grandmother Spider was great. I hope we see her again and get to meet some of the others.
+ The change in format with the interludes and the switches in POV worked for me. I liked getting to see situations (and Mercy) through other people. That said there were maybe a few too many POVs.
+ I loved the way the walking stick is described when it first turns up - "felt ruffled and protective" and her noting that if it were a dog it would be growling. I love the walking stick.
+ I'm always here for more on Mercy's ghost powers. Her making Jack more solid/alive was interesting and I kind of wondering if she could one day bring souls back to 'life'?
+ I really thought that Mercy and Adam would take over the roles of 'caretaker' and 'avenger' during the wedding.
+ I don't like how Aiden has once again been pushed off the page. I wasn't happy to realise he's been moved out of the house. I liked Mercy and Adam essentially adopting him and I wanted more of watching the ways the three of them awkwardly were becoming family.
+ The fact that the audiobook sex scene that played was m/m/m was enough to make me wonder if the books might go in a Sherwood/Warren/Kyle direction.
