I loved the Cole/Katarina dance. Everything about it was so spot on. The tension was excellent. Poor Katarina was so upset she could barely contain it.
"Two great agonies. The pain of losing a child. And the pain of being betrayed by one. Did it ever occur to you to tell me the truth?" I love everything about this. I find it fascinating that she is putting Cole on even footing with Hannah, placing him in the same position as her child, and then indicating his betrayal hurt as much as the death of her daughter?! That is a lot. As someone who loves their relationship I'm a little gleeful tbh cause she cares about him so much! So much so that she offers him (specifically) clemency at the end. And I knew she cared but it's one thing to know and one to see. Then there's her last line that I think really gets to the heart of it because Cole didn't trust her, after everything they had been through, enough to come to her. I am so curious about what her response would have been. Does she really think her love for Cole would have overcome her desire to kill the Witness to save the world?
I loved Cole and Katarina pulling their guns on each other at the same time.
Katarina trying to create a difference between Cole/Hannah and Athan, where the former weren't given the choice of who they became because they were the products of the destroyed world they grew in, whereas Athan did chose what he became feels false. She loves the former two so they get excuses, Athan is the cause of all that went wrong so he deserves to die. Yet, they all made the choices that made them who they are, and they were all products of how they were raised. Athan was raised for a decade (?) by a cult that knew he was going to destroy the world, by Magdalena, he's a Primary and despite then having a wonderful guardian in Sebastian that can't leave him unaffected by it.
I loved Cole pointing out that they hadn't done anything Katarina wouldn't have done herself because I agree with him. That's the fun thing about these characters - they're all kind of terrible people (who I love!) who have done terrible things, and who will go to extremes for a goal.
A+ for Jennifer acting as a mole and misdirecting them away from Cole/Cassie, realising when she needed to get out and doing what was necessary to manage it and then saving Cole/Cassie by creating a distraction. It was all great. That said why the heck would she create a distraction that needed her to stick around? She had to know that if they caught her they would make her a prisoner? She clearly had some time on her hands in order to get or create that kickass costume she wore and she should have used that time to figure out distraction + escape.
Sebastian was a pretty great guardian to Athan, and friend (considering that Athan came to say goodbye when he died.) Him focusing on teaching Athan and giving him the tools he'd need to choose his own future was great. I loved his whole idea to take Athan into the past and force him to live with nothing so that he could understand better what it meant to wield the power he would one day have. That was a great attempt. And then in the end he sacrificed his life so that Cole/Cassie could escape so that in turn they would have the chance to be there for Athan in the future. He loved Athan and I appreciate that. All that said I can't help but wonder how things might have gone differently if he'd allowed Cole and Cassie have him instead of running with him.
This was a great episode for Cole/Cassie. Him giving her pickpocket lessons was cute but I absolutely loved the dancing lessons montage. I found them so sweet and adorable and funny, and obviously in love and good for each other. One of my favourite scenes between them. "It's okay I have nine more" LOL. Also: "Nothing bad can come from this" re: them and their love made me awww.
Splinter vests really are overpowered and I quite enjoy them. The train fight was delightful.
Cole giving the pickpocket advice on how to do it better after catching him and giving him money made me aww. It was sweet. I'd love for them to somehow come into play again someday. There's something about random acts of kindness having big effects that I love and time travel shows could do it so well.
Lasky really stepped it up this episode! I was so impressed with him. His interactions with Jennifer were delightful. He spoke her language and it was lovely. I loved his deadpan "Oh no I fear for my life" at her finger gun and then later at Katarina's fury his "She had a gun" LOL.
Jennifer sacrificing her tortoise to a paradox to create a distraction to escape was sad. Poor tortoise. Also I figured that paradox might be the cause of the base's destruction but I guess not. Has Jennifer been planning for this eventuality since she brought the baby version into the future? Huh, I didn't think she had it in her. I'm impressed.
Jones slapping Jennifer - :/ Not nice.
All I can think with Jennifer locked up is that the Laboratory security is now largely made up of the Daughters. I mean yes Jennifer's relationship with them has basically been non-existent this season, and last season she failed in a lot of ways at leading them and maintaining the devotion that her older self created and yet... she is still Jennifer and that has to mean something, no? Even if Hannah is leading them now. IDK, I don't know if anything will happen with that but I feel like it should?
It's weird because both Katarina and Deacon are acting the same way, have the same goals and both feel very betrayed and yet I find myself more understanding with Katarina and am like 'well of course', whereas with Deacon I'm like 'oh no don't back slide, bad Deacon'. IDK.
I appreciate Jennifer pointing out to Deacon that Cassie specifically aimed to not kill him. (Though I get why he's still bitter.)
Why did Cassie's costume have no shoulders and a cut out back? It was so distracting! That's not period appropriate. It bothered me a lot lol. Meanwhile Katarina looked amazing, Jennifer's costume was wonderful and on point, and Hannah looked great.
