Inju telling the grand prince to step down from being superintendent of Saongwon for his 'mistake' that almost cost the kingdom greatly honestly just made me wonder why we didn't see Heon do that after it happened.

I feel like we have to be missing a lot about what was happening with Heon's mother before she was disposed because execution by poisoning is a wild response to what we heard. What the hell, Inju? How is that in any way reasonable?

Why would Ji-young think the chocolate would bring his maternal grandmother back to sensibility? And why would it work? (At the very least they could have had Ji-young coincidentally meet her before this to set a precedence.) But also she was putting a lot of trust that the grandmother wouldn't want revenge for her daughter's murder. How lucky that his mother gave those specific last words. On the whole I wish this had been left out because none of it makes sense.

I can't believe that Ji-young, who knows basically nothing about the inner workings of the palace, had to point out to Heon that there was something suspicious about Jung-gyul showing up when he did and connecting it to his brother's poisoning. I don't know if he's cut out for this king job.

Ji-young telling Heon to reconcile with Inju, and suggesting a shared meal to prevent a deepening rift between them felt kind of insensitive tbh. It's absolutely the right choice politically and maybe even better for him mentally and emotionally but he just learned that his mother's murder was orchestrated by his grandmother! WTH? Give him at least a day! The fact that he actually agreed I think is what makes me believe he truly loves her lol.

Jesan wore the mask/costume to pretend to be the king so it would spread that 'the king' killed everyone and yet he seemingly killed everyone in Inju's part of the palace and then abandoned the costume. So what even was it's purpose? He didn't even have Inju die thinking her grandson killed her because he needed to gloat.

I was not expecting so much death! Inju (at least she knew the truth of who killed her), the dowager-queen and the previous consorts, all of the palace maids and court ladies. Heon's court lady (sad!) and Chang-seon (noooooo! Literally the saddest thing ever). They seemed to kill basically everyone in the palace that wasn't a part of their group from lowly maids to all the guards. I am so worried about our kitchen staff!

I was suspicious of Song-jae at the beginning of the series but he really proved himself loyal to Heon and not a bad guy at all. I wish we'd seen more of him in these last few episodes. Him dying to protect Heon and Heon losing it was sad.

Okay yes his best friend just died, that's terrible but also there is fire everywhere and he is being attacked, and I just wanted Heon to learn to prioritize!

The timing with Gong-gil rescuing Ji-young is weird. It seemed to happen even before Jesan went on his massacre and certainly before Heon had left the palace. Why wouldn't Gong-gil immediately have made his way to Heon? Was the part of the palace he was in already taken over by the red-headbands?

I am so curious if things could have gone differently if Heon had stayed in he palace. I feel like no. Honestly I don't know if there is a lot at this point where anything Heon did could have changed this. I guess verbally forgiving his grandmother and those involved in his mother's death instead of simply leaving the celebration would have put a dent in the whole 'Heon went insane and murdered everyone in revenge' but honestly Jesan could have just said after the fact that Heon was lying and went on a murderous spree. The coup seemed pretty well planned and established at this point with a lot of people secretly working towards it.
