Agents of Shield 2x02 & 2x03 Thoughts
2x02 'Heavy Is the Head'
• I love that May is in on Coulson's 'episodes' but I really wish that they had brought Skye in on what was happening. Especially since they have her researching what he's writing.
• "And he can turn any body part into any material." - Skye. Hee.
• I loved seeing Raina again. I also love that there are multiple different fractions all working against each other [Talbot vs Coulson's SHIELD vs Hydra vs Raina/Skye's father vs who knows]. That's so much more interesting than just this group vs that group. I hope we get more fractions.
• There were a couple little moments I really liked: Coulson actually answering after Skye tells him to try yoga, Trip getting to use the big gun because he won the coin flip, Coulson looking through Fury's black box of knowledge and coming across a file on Peggy Carter.
• I liked the Mack/Fitz scenes and Mack was great with Fitz but the lack of Fitz with the original team is sad.
• Lance is... fine, I guess. I really don't see the point to him though. On the other hand, I was sure that the show wouldn't be able to sell Coulson keeping him on as a SHIELD agent but I kind of bought it at the end so that's something.
• I got my hopes up after the last episode when I read people talking about how the show wouldn't hire Lucy Lawless for just one episode and I let myself believe it. Sigh. I'm also super annoyed that Hartley's death ended up being there as angst/motivation for Lance.
2x03 'Making Friends and Influencing People'
I liked this.
• Yeah, Jemma totally went to Coulson with the idea of her playing spy. There is no way he came up with that. Did May help to convince him that it would work?
• I love May as Skye's XO and her mentoring Skye. "She's good. She's not the only one."
• "Don't be sorry. Just wait." - May. LOL
• I hope we get to learn more about Agent 33. Coulson told Jemma to make friends - who better? The show could go a number of interesting places with that.
• I loved the Jemma/Coulson scene. Him bugging her about her bad diet and then making her a healthy dinner was adorable. Had a very father/daughter vibe.
• Speaking of father/daughter vibe - that's been missing from Skye/Coulson this season and I've been missing it. You'd think they'd emphasize that more with Skye's biological father on the show now.
• I love that May really does seem to know all of Coulson's secrets and is a true second-in-command.
• Ward gave them 'a fighting chance to save themselves'? Bullshit. That is some self-serving revisionist history there. Does he need to tell himself that to keep going every day? Because what happened was that they refused to come out of the box and he did the only thing he could to get rid of them. Sure it gave them a 'chance' but it wasn't his first choice. What would he have done if they had come out when he asked? I mean I do think that he didn't want to kill them and that he genuinely liked them but he would have. If his first thought was to give them a chance he wouldn't have even asked them to come out.
I did like this - "Everything I did, good and bad, I did of my own free will." I like that he isn't trying to make excuses here. And the excuses he was making earlier were more explanations - the bit about being loyal to Garret never Hydra, I buy completely from what we saw.
• I did really like the Fitz/Ward scene.
• "May shot me." - Lance
"Man, I wanted to be the one." - Trip. Hee.
• The blocking after Skye shot Donnie was not very good. The fact that Sunil and Jemma ran to look over the railing instead of diving for cover was just stupid. WTH? I just can't buy Sunil doing that. Jemma pushing him out of the way came off very awkwardly and staged. The fact that none of the Hydra agents shot back at Skye was weird. It was just a badly done scene.
• That little moment between Trip/Mack when they got back to the base was great.
• I loved May and Trip's shared grin after May tells Lance that he and she are even (but not Trip and Lance). A little moment but delightful. I can't wait to see what Trip does.
• I really wish we'd seen Skye's reaction to learning about Jemma being a SHIELD spy in Hydra.
• "I'm serious. I love her but her trying to lie is a horror show." - Skye re: Jemma.
