Dal Ja's Spring Episode 6 Review
Show Must Go On!
• I find the way the husband’s role in an affair is just completely ignored so aggravating. It’s all about the ‘mistress’ vs the wife and it’s only the mistress/girlfriend who gets all the blame and derision. This is certainly true to life in many ways but it still pisses me off. Especially since the facts of the case are so – mild. I mean we had Sae Do and Seon Joo cheating together at the beginning of the show and I think that was worse. Dal Ja didn’t know that he was married until his wife came to the office, so even if you discount the fact that the two have been separated for two years like Soo Ji did, you still have the fact that Dal Ja had no idea! And sure when she learned about it she didn’t immediately break up with him (in part because he left on a business trip) but she did break up with him in the end. I can understand Soo Ji taking a married woman’s side, even against her friend if there was an actual affair going on, but in this case I can’t understand why she isn’t more understanding since she knows exactly how this has all been playing out and that Dal Ja didn’t do it on purpose.
• I felt really sorry for Dal Ja throughout the episode but several times I find myself musing that she was lucky to have Sae Do as a friend (which is certainly nothing I would have imagined saying at the beginning of the series). I loved how angry he was at the beginning and how he wanted to defend Dal Ja.
• Okay, so Soo Ji seemed very sympathetic and sad for Dal Ja, as did Sae Do and Seon Joo, when she explained that she was just so embarrassed and ashamed by causing all this trouble and bad things happening and that she just didn’t want to cause any more, which made me less irritated by her.
• I really liked the Dal Ja/Ki Joong scene at the hospital but where the heck was he when Dal Ja needed him? Why hasn’t he talked to her bosses? Does he not realise what trouble she’s in?
• I really liked what we saw of Dal Ja’s mother this episode – her cleaning the door and completely ignoring the passing whispers, and then not calling her daughter on the situation or yelling at her at all. I also love that it was her mother getting involved and being hurt by everything that forced Dal Ja into fighting back.
• Seon Joo defending Dal Ja was amazing and wonderful. I love that she threatened to quit if Dal Ja was forced to resign but that she was calm and logical and gave a comprehensive and good list of reasons why. Plus her bit about her not ‘following the rules of moral either’ worked for me.
• “Of course the main person who created this difficult situation should take responsibility for it as well.” – Seon Joo See my big problem with this whole thing is: why the hell is Dal Ja the ‘main’ cause of everything? I think Ki Joong who didn’t tell her he was married before taking her on a date shares responsibility and his wife certainly shares responsibility as well. I hate that everything is being blamed on Dal Ja.
• “I’m jealous. It’s the first time I’ve seen her care about someone else’s business.” – Sae Do. This was the first time I had femslashy thoughts about this show. Hmm. I could see Dal Ja/Seon Joo. Actually I think they could work really well.
• The interesting thing about Seon Joo/Sae Do is that this episode – specifically at the club – is the first time I actually remember seeing the two of them actually enjoying each other and having fun together. The previous episode showed that she cares for him but this one made me see them far more as people who like each other. I mean Seon Joo was laughing and smiling, and clearly very amused by him and with him. I hope we get to see more of them like this.
• I loved the three of them all dancing together at the club. It was adorable. ♥ Clearly Ki Joong thought so as well.
• The Dal Ja/Seon Joo interactions were great. Besides defending Dal Ja to the board so magnificently I also liked Seon Joo calling Dal Ja out on not defending herself and fighting for her job. Them hanging out at Dal Ja’s and Seon Joo’s support of her was nice.
• Why didn’t Dal Ja have on her neck and/or waist brace when she went home? It felt contrived so that her mom wouldn’t know about the hospital trip. I’m also sad that she lost it because I really wanted to see Tae Bong’s reaction to her wearing it. I wanted to see him comforting her.
• Seon Joo going to Dal Ja’s house worked for me but Sae Do going to Ki Joong’s made me go ‘what’. I mean they’ve talked like once, right? It would have made more sense for Sae Do to have gone over to talk about Dal Ja and invite him out to meet her instead of them hanging out and getting drunk at Ki Joong’s house and then Sae Do tricking Ki Joong into meeting her.
• Tae Bong’s family was interesting. But what I loved best was that the first thing he did when he got free was to call Dal Ja and then he immediately set to work tracking her down when she didn’t pick up.
A serious issue I am having with this series is that I’m finding it so difficult to find the names of various characters. Not only isn’t it always clear in the show, or I miss it, but unlike other series I’ve watched no site I’ve found thus far has a complete cast list so I can’t even look it up. It is very annoying! I mean I thought Dal Ja’s married friend was named Soo Ji but apparently her name is Go Shil Jang. WTH? Then who is Soo Ji? What are Dal Ja’s mother and grandmother’s names, or what about Tae Bong’s family or best friend? I also don’t know what Ki Joong’s wife’s name was. It is just very annoying.
