Project Runway 8x06 & 8x07 Thoughts
8x06 ‘You Can Totally Wear That Again’
Mondo’s pink/black mod dress was wonderful. I loved it. It’s so cute and definitely wearable.
Ivy’s white pants and yellow top was nice. I liked the top and it’s another outfit that looks like the model could just leave wearing it.
Valerie’s dress was a huge transformation and looked nothing like the starter bridesmaid dress but I’m not sure how I feel about the end result. Hmm. I can’t decide if I think it’s cute of not. I like the straps, and the use of black, and the belt/bow piece but I am not certain about the black vertical strips or the off white colour of the top.
Gretchen’s look didn’t really work for me. The skirt was okay, if short, but I don’t like the top either individually or with the top. Also the side-boob showing really didn’t work for me (these are for everyday, not the runway) and while she fixed it for the runway I didn’t like how the fix worked with the top in the back.
Peach’s could have been nice but overall didn’t work for me. She added this weird green ruffle around the waist (that didn’t meet in the front) that looked bizarre. Why would she do that? The skirt and top were okay otherwise – nothing special, but wearable. I liked the neck of the top. A closer look at the top and the fabric’s kind of eh, and I don’t know why she picked it.
Andy’s look is definitely a huge change. I love that he dyed the fabric though with his short shorts I don’t know that he used enough fabric from the dress (weren’t they supposed to use most of the dress?) The top is fine – I like the corseted waist look.
Michael C’s dress didn’t really work for me. It was very short skirt and the angled cut of it is rather blah to me. It was hard to see details and I may have liked it more but as it stands I didn’t really. Also the lace didn’t really work for me.
Christopher’s dress was cute. I liked the cut of the top though I thought the choice of colour for the not-dress-material breast piece made it look like a bra which is less good. Personally I like the fabric.
Michael D’s dress was cute as well. I liked the cut of the bodice which I thought was sexy and flattering. I liked the black overlay on the pink and how he left the straps the pink.
Casanova’s was fairly cute and another huge change. I’m surprised he made the dress into the pants instead of the top. The top he did make was nice.
April’s was very nice. It was a big change and it looked very modern and chic to me. Sexy, too. I liked the two tone of the dress.
- My top three would be Mondo, April and... Christopher. I don’t know about the third but it doesn’t matter because I’d pick Mondo as the winner.
- The bottom three would be Gretchen, Peach and Michael C. To go home... hmm: I liked Peach’s dress better than Michael C’s except for that bloody ruffle (WHY would she put that on!?). I didn’t like Gretchen’s but I watched too far and know she makes it in. But then I guess that doesn’t matter, does it? Eh, I don’t know. I’d understand any of these three going.
- I spent most of the episode feeling bad for Michael C, what with everyone talking smack behind his back, and I want to feel happy for him for winning but I can’t because I’m actually with the other designers on this. WTH? That was an ugly dress. Definitely not better than Mondo’s. But then I often disagree with what the judges think.
Still while this win was definitely not deserved it’s good that he’s getting some support since he’s definitely not going to get it from the backstabbing other designers. Also on the whole rumour about him talking badly about Ivy and her work at the showcase I believe Michael C when he said he didn’t do it. It feels like some of the designers just really want to hate him.
I liked Peach but her outfit was bad so I wasn’t upset when she was cut.
8x07 ‘What’s Mine Is Yours’
Michael C – Okay. It looks nice but not really my taste in fabric and not enough breast support.
Mondo – Very cute. I liked the pink lined blue/white swimsuit and the green/yellow jacket grew on me the more I looked at it.
Michael D – Nice, don’t have much to say... interesting detail at the top.
Ivy – It’s nice even though its very simple. I think it looks comfortable and I would totally wear it. I love the green of the top.
Christopher – I loved the top – the fabric, the drape of it, the one shoulder tie – it was gorgeous. The shorts were fine.
April – Okay. I love the sheer fabric draping from the bodice as a skirt. The straps at the top were neat.
Casanova – Nice. I like the detail at the waist and the off-shoulder of the shirt. The pants were simple but nice.
Gretchen – Nice, liked the colours. The pants with the split showing the other colour was nice.
Valerie – Eh. The top was okay but there were some issues with the back. The shorts were okay as well but they don't go together very well.
Andy – I loved the swimsuit – very interesting and very sexy, the colours were great, and I loved the floaty detachable skirt piece.
My top three: Andy, Christopher, Mondo. I pick Andy to win.
My bottom three: much harder to pick because I think they all did great this challenge. I think the one I liked least was Valerie so I’ll just say her to go home.
... I actually agreed with most of what the judges said about the garments. Mondo’s was very young and Casanova’s was very old. But are they only designing clothes for a very narrow set of people? I didn’t agree with April’s win but then I didn’t love her look like everyone else seems to have.
