Elementary Thoughts
1x23 'The Woman' & 1x24 'Heroine'
Excellent finale.
• Irene is Moriarty! I did not see that coming. Minus one thing I loved the reveal. The scene where Irene saves Sherlock and the truth is revealed was excellent.
- My main issue with merging the two characters together is that it means we've lost the character of Irene Adler which is sad.
- "Not in a million years. You may not be as unique as you thought, darling, but you're still a work of art. I appreciate art." - Moriarty.
• Sherlock/Joan continue to be amazing as always. I loved Sherlock calling the brownstone Joan's home. And then he named his new bee species after Joan! Awww. Also I love how when he's at his weakest she has his back.
• "You said there was only one person in the world who could surprise you. Turns out there's two." - Sherlock. ♥ I Loved Joan figuring out that a) Moriarty did love Sherlock and that b) faking an overdoes would get her to Sherlock's side.
• I loved the Moriarty/Joan scene. I loved: "Oh my dear Watson".
• I do feel like Moriarty was captured a bit easily. I'm hopeful that next season will start with her escaping either getting free of the charges (the tape disappears!) or physically escaping. I'm leaning towards the former. I'm assuming that this is just the beginning of Moriarty vs Sherlock and Watson and I can't wait for more.
• So does Moriarty have any actual lieutenants? Because it doesn't really seem like it - perhaps John Douglas was one - but everyone else not so much. Also she seems to kill people at the slightest provocation which doesn't seem like the best use of resources. Those two things seem to work against the idea of her being this big global criminal mastermind.
• So is her name Irene Moriarty? That would be easiest. Or was 'Irene Adler' entirely an alias?
• I loved that this version of the story moved away from the whole 'Irene working for Moriarty' thing other adaptations have been doing.
• I'm so used to shows ending seasons with cliffhangers that I kept expecting something to happen. It was nice to have a quiet finale for once.
