God Friended Me
Dec. 13th, 2019 11:44 pm+ I'm really not a fan of the direction Miles/Cara went in.
Cara was right that Miles was being a little hypocritical - not just because of how he reacted when it was his uncle but also his behaviour when Joy first arrived, Miles has often let his personal feelings interfere in how he approaches a Friend Request even if he eventually makes the right choice - but at the same time Miles wasn't wrong. Him choices were the right ones - if he'd talked about it with Cara first. She wasn't listening but he could have maybe asked his dad to talk to her? He could have tried more. I really can't blame her for being mad about him going behind her back.
But at the same time her not only trying to turn her back on Paul's wrong-doing but actively deciding to kill the story to protect her family was very clearly wrong! That was absolutely the morally wrong choice and we never see her have to grapple with it. Not during any of her talks with Miles does she acknowledge how terrible what she tried to do was. She's a reporter! It bothers me a lot.
Then there's Cara turning against the God Account. Even after the situation with Miguel - where not only did Miles save literal lives because of the God Account but where she was an integral part of it happening - she's all 'I can't' about it and... I don't understand? She knows how the God Account works and how important it is. I'm struggling a little here. She's angry about her family, she feels like the God Account doesn't care about her at all and she's a pawn. I do get that. But her reaction still felt way too extreme to me so I'm missing something to sell it to me.
+ I loved the whole storyline with Miguel and how that played out. It was one of the most emotionally effective stories they've done and I loved how the situation ended up working out. A+.
+ I also liked Miguel approaching Miles knowing about his podcast (afterwards) and his reaction when Miles confirmed that he was a Friend Request. I'm interested in seeing how things change as Miles and what he's doing gets more famous/known.
+ Miles seems to be getting a little arrogant about what he does and him not telling the NYFD about Miguel being suicidal from the beginning could have gone very wrong. Or maybe not 'arrogant' but he believes so strongly in the God Account and his own role as it's avatar (or whatever) that it's almost religious. These episodes definitely showed his faith in the God Account and also his belief that he is the only/right person to make certain choices. I wonder if this is going anywhere.
+ If this Miles/Cara situation leads to Cara dating his good-looking work colleague I'm going to be deeply annoyed.
+ When Miles was talking about finding a replacement for himself the obvious choice was Joy, especially when she showed up at the end, but he didn't even seem to consider it. Why not? Also if we do get someone to take Miles place, or to work with him, why not Ali? She doesn't have much to do on the show right now, she wants to help people but isn't sure how and I think she'd be good at it. There's no reason there can be only one person/group doing this.
+ Joy is clearly there to get involved in Paul's case and help make everything right. I don't care why I'm just glad that she's back.
