Briarpatch Episode 9 and 10 Thoughts

iaria1x09 'Game Theory and Mescaline'
+ Jake saying taking a bullet for Allegra was his confession that he was in love with her was great.
+ I really loved Allegra opening up about Felicity's death and her regret and guilt and grief over it. It was a lovely scene.
+ Singe taping the conversation between the Senator and Brattle was great. I appreciate that after being stonewalled on Allegra's fate Singe decided to keep doing what they'd been doing and got the smoking gun they needed.
+ Cyrus actually seemed a little perturbed when Brattle obliquely asked if he could kill Allegra (he hesitated and then slightly stuttered) which was interesting.
+ I was disappointed that Brattle just sent the two of them off to be murdered by a minion in the desert. Considering how intense his relationship with Jake was I was expecting something more. Perhaps the fact that he sent just one minion was another sign he doesn't really want him dead.
+ Raytek/Daphne came out of no where. When Daphne was shown helping Raytek steal Jake's property I thought it was weird but eh, she knew Raytek from her partnership with Jake and was probably in the know as far as their scheme so I could go with it. But then the sudden making out happened and that I wish had even a little bit of build up of that.
1x10 'Felicity'
+ I really like that the final shot was Allegra driving out of town, smiling, finally free of the weight of her past.
+ That last Allegra/Jake scene was painful but worked really well. Jake telling her that "it's always been you" was so good. I really liked that Allegra blamed both of them for what happened because it was always the three of them but they were too wrapped in each other ("only see each other") to be there for Felicity when she needed them. I liked the reveal that Felicity called Jake for help, that absolutely makes sense.
"You broke my heart." - Allegra
"You are my heart." - Jake
Jake pulling the gun on Allegra, her walking away and him not shooting her was perfect. I don't know where their relationship would go from here because it felt very final but I like to think it never will be between them. But whereas Allegra is ending the series free for maybe the first time, Jake was still trapped in the past and consumed with darkness which doesn't bode well for him and I can't help but wonder, if there's a second season, he won't make it a problem for Allegra too.
+ Brattle, Gene and Raytek's deaths all worked for me. Brattle being killed so suddenly, while so arrogantly assuming he was in control, by one of the minions he had such contempt for was great. Gene getting shot by Jake, then killed by Raytek was fine. Raytek being killed via car bomb by Gene and the reveal that they each set the other up was excellent.
+ Raytek being behind so much of what was happening surprised me a little but it makes a lot of sense and I liked the little sit down between her and Allegra.
+ This episode gave me the Brattle/Jake that was missing in the last. Honestly I kind of believe Brattle that he wasn't expecting Jake to die. He keeps going on and on about how Jake was his best so if he wanted him dead he wouldn't have sent one minion to do it. I feel like if Brattle ever did kill Jake it would be by his own hand. I loved "You always were my best boy" and him telling Allegra that Jake meant a lot to him. I loved Jake's reaction to Brattle's death - the way all other noise disappears for a couple seconds, how dazed he looked and then the rage and him shooting Gene. He feared Brattle and hated him but I think it's clear he also loved him and I wish we'd gotten to see more of their backstory.
+ I'm pleased that Allegra turned over the deed to the house to Candy. I'm glad that it seems like Candy is going to be just fine.
+ That Lucretia actually did shoot Harold surprised me.
+ I was disappointed that Cyrus and the Senator apparently got off so easily. Sure, they didn't get Brattle or Jake or the blackmail material, but neither did they get punished. Allegra using the recording as leverage to get out was probably a smart choice on her part but I still wanted her to use it to blow everything up.
