Shin is an idiot. I can't believe that Chae-young basically confessed her feelings for him and his response was to irritably tell her to 'stop talking about hearts and feelings and leave Yul alone'. ... dude. Then he scolds her parents in front of her to use proper speech/honourifics with her. And high-handedly asserts that she won't be going back to their place. Then he informs Chae-kyung that since he's decided to be king he needs "someone to smile for the camera" - WTF. Dear god, this guy. How is he literally the worst at communicating with Chae-kyung? He's so bad at it! What he was trying to say to her was no where near what he actually said. When she leaves he says to himself "Please don't go. Please don't leave me here alone." - literally just say that to Chae-kyung. Why is this so hard. Holy crap. Then he does confess his love, which I do actually believe he feels at this point, but he does it during the interview! Aaaahhhhh!
I loved Chae-kyung realising that while she thought she needed Shin to survive at the palace in actuality the palace suffocating her might actually be because they aren't getting along rather then because she can't handle it. The rules are definitely a lot but it's been stated multiple times how she changes the palace rather than the other way. I liked her having this revelation so it was hard to see her be worn down over the course of the episode.
"She’s more important to me than being King. If I have to choose, I’ll give up the throne but not her." Oh, Yul. I liked him being so willing to tell the truth to protect her and her refusing so that she could protect him.
Yul's increasingly desperate attempts to convince Chae-kyung to ask for a divorce, even to the point of calling her at the interview, made me sigh. I liked that Shin finally overheard one of their conversations and he knows better what's going on. Of course it led him to confess his love in that way so sigh again.
I think maybe the most important thing Yul's love for Chae-kyung has given him is the will to stand up to his mother, to not give in to her attempts at manipulation and to try and forge his own life.
Now that Shin knows the truth about the past I really can't wait for him to use that against the King. He's really far too critical about everything Shin (and Chae-kyung) do considering that skeleton in his past. Shin's confrontation with Hwa-young was great.
I liked the Chae-kyung/Hyo-ri scene. Hyo-ri encouraging Chae-kyung's designing and complementing the shoes she made was nice and I liked that they agreed that perhaps in the future they could become friends.
That rule about princes having to move out when they turn three is bizarre and deeply stupid. WTF? That needs to be the first thing the next king changes. Yeesh.
Interesting to have both the Queen and Hwa-young pressuring their sons to be king, with it implied because of what they'd sacrificed for them.
