Can You Hear Me?

I liked it.

+ There were some good creepy bits during the first half. The actor who played Zellin was great.

+ I liked the Doctor forgetting that her companions weren't with her in Aleppo and then later on the satellite ship getting so distracted with enacting her plan she didn't notice they were gone until she realised she was talking to herself again.

+ "The Doctor. She's basically the definition of impossible."

+ Enjoyed the Doctor arguing with the TARDIS and the TARDIS apparently arguing back - "quite defiantly", ha.

+ Graham confessing his fears to the Doctor was nice and I liked her listening intently but having no idea what to say and the way she confessed it and his amusement over it.

I also really liked this exchange between them:

Doctor: You trust me, don't ya?
Graham: Have I got to answer that?
Doctor: Oi!

LOL.

+ Getting some Yaz backstory was nice and I loved her scenes with the police officer who helped her, especially the final scene where she visits her again with the 50p. That was a well done scene. I was left a little confused about her storyline - the seriousness it was played, especially considering the scenes with her sister, made me wonder if she'd been contemplating suicide or if there was something more to her running away than we were told. The scenes with the sister in particular had me going ??? though they were nice.

+ I liked Ryan's friendship with Tibo though I wish we'd seen a hint of it before this episode since it's clearly important to him. I was impressed with how well he dealt with Tibo's fear and mental health issues. The show is very sledgehammer-like with issues but the way they dealt with mental health this episode was fairly well done.

+ Ryan reconsidering if travelling with the Doctor is what he wants to keep doing is interesting. It'd be nice to have a companion voluntarily leave the TARDIS because it no longer works for them.

+ Since Ruth!Doctor didn't recognise the sonic screwdriver I've been noticing the Doctor's use of it a lot more and wow, she was heavily reliant on it this episode.

+ The way the Doctor defeated the Immortals felt a little too easy in that there was certainly enough time for them to react before the Doctor could act. If Tahira's fear monster had distracted them before the Doctor acted it would have made more sense? The how of it all felt very handwavy. The Doctor trapping the fear creature in the prison with them - necessary to get/keep them in there or another ruthless Doctor moment?

+ I liked the villains, Zellin and Rakaya, and their relationship. The animated story of them was neat. I've never watched classic!Who so I know nothing about the immortals or eternals or guardians but it's interesting to have them popping back up now. I wonder if the return now of old school beings more powerful than the Time Lords is going to play into the Timeless Child mystery or if it's the "beings from another realm" that's important?
