2x03 'Theft'
+ I really loved the scene between Marisa and Lee. Really excellent, probably one of my favourite scenes of the series. I loved Lee realising the commonality between them, and how affected Marisa was from it as well as by Lee’s devotion to Lyra.
+ I also loved the contrast between them afterwards – Lee moving down to be face to face with Hester, her verbally comforting him and offering him reassurance before nuzzling his face, meanwhile, Marisa stalks out of the room and stands facing a wall as she tries to deal with her wild emotions and her golden monkey oh so cautiously approaches and tentatively reaches up to hold her hand. Wanting to offer her comfort but being wary/scared of being hurt in return. And she lets him! For the first time she doesn't slap his and away and accepts his comfort! This feels huge. Can we consider it character growth and positive sign for their relationship, or simple a sign of how emotional destroyed she was in that moment? Sigh, I think I know the answer to that.
+ I love that Marisa freed Lee to be another person out there seeking to protect Lyra.
+ I really like Mary, she's lovely. And I like her interactions with Lyra.
+ The movie theatre scene between Will and Lyra was nice – I liked Lyra opening up to Will, I liked her opinion on popcorn and I liked how riveted she and Pan were by the movie.
2x04 'Tower of Angels'
+ Is Boreal's obvious satisfaction at beating Asriel, the fact that he even brought him up so he could highlight being smarter than him, entirely about Marisa or is there something more? Also it probably would have worked better to impress herif he'd done it before Asriel had torn a massive hole between the worlds and asked her to fight a war to destroy the Authority, create a new republic of Heaven and change all the worlds with him. Sort of too little, too late, you know?
+ I love the effect of the Knife cutting between worlds.
2x05 'The Scholar'
+ Man, I just feel so bad for the golden monkey! Yeah, he's terrible just like Mrs. Coulter but when she left him behind at Boreal’s and then how he got nothing from her when she returned made me sad for him.
+ I continue to like Lyra and Will. I liked Lyra being faced with her similarities to her mother and not wanting to be like that, and Will reassuring her that she doesn't have to be like anyone because wonderful for who she is. It was a sweet scene.
+ This exchange was great:
"I wasn’t thinking about forcing him." - Lyra
"You were." - Pan
"Oh shut up Pan." - Lyra
Hee. I had the same grin as Will. Also I'm enjoying Lyra/Pan.
+ "My dear Carlo, if you actually got me, you wouldn’t know what to do with me." So true. Boreal really showed this episode how very much he absolutely does not get Marisa - from the fact that he did the whole "take a breath, you're clearly upset" thing with her, to making her bringing up the consequences of her affair all about Asriel and not wanting to listen, to making her the innocent who was taken advantage of, to his disdain for this less religious world and not noticing that she didn't feel the same. He doesn't see the real her. Also the fact that she (apparently) so easily manipulates him into returning to Cittàgazze by pricking his ego/masculinity is just sad. Even if it wasn't clear that she was simply tolerating him to reach her end goal this is not a relationship going anywhere.
+ I liked the Mrs. Coulter/Mary scene and Marisa being confronted with just how much she'd been denied by being born in the wrong world and her utter fury over it and seeing her struggle with that. Also Mary was lovely as always.
+ I loved Marisa overcoming the pain of her demon being attacked to stand. I love her indomitable will.
