Chinese Lantern Plant
+ I was a bit disappointed in the end with how the episode played out. I get why they filmed it the way it was - to fool the audience and maintain the tension and uncertainty - but honestly I'd have much rather have seen Rang and Yeon and Ji Ah coming together to discuss how best to trick Imugi/the CEO and help themselves, with the tension coming in on whether or not they'd pull it off.
As it is Yeon and Rang played their parts too well. I couldn't see any hint that they had switched places which I think was a misstep. We've seen Rang playing Yeon before and it was obvious then that 'Yeon' was slightly off. I really wish there had been more subtle 'tells' about who they really were instead of it coming completely out of no where. I can buy Yeon being good at being Rang as far as his complaints about Yeon because he's heard it so many times before but Rang having the self-awareness to basically self-roast himself - ehh.
All that said I do love that everyone was working together this episode. Yeon going to Rang and apologising for not knowing he was in danger and offering a solution was excellent. For Yeon this is a big step in learning from past mistakes in how to deal with Rang. Yeon and Rang working together to deal with the CEO was great. Ji Ah telling Yeon about the CEO's deal and them also coming together to work out a plan was nice.
+ Imugi's power is genuinely scary. That he can just say something and cause everyone in proximity to him to feel it and then act on those feelings as if they have no will of their own - yikes!
+ Jae Hwan bringing Yeon a gift of mealworms and Yeon's 'can you believe this' reaction was hilarious. But also super adorable on the part of Jae Hwan - he did research on foxes and was really trying! Cute.
+ Rang trying to play tough and unaffected with Soo Ha, to play Yeon's role, and then giving in and saving Soo Ha anyway was great.
+ Yoo Ri interacting with Soo Ha was very amusing. I love how much she dislikes him being there, like a jealous cat confronted with a new kitten, and Shin Yoo playing peace keeper was great. It was a very cute scene.
+ I love how joyful Yoo Ri is every time Rang calls her.
+ Ji Ah telling Imugi that she knows who he is was a bit precipitous. Why give away an advantage like that?
+ As a method of putting limits on the gumiho the contacts lose a little of their weight if a gumiho can simply have the human's life threatened until they agree to end the contract in the way most advantageous to the gumiho.
+ Ji Ah getting her parents back at the end of the episode was too quick and easy for me. How the heck did they know how to get her parents freed from the lanterns? They're lanterns! I doubt that was something the CEO showed Rang how to do. It bothered me.
+ It was nice to get a little more background on Taluipa. Specifically that she hasn't smacked down Imugi, even though she has the power and it's her duty, because to do so would also kill Ji Ah (and perhaps condemn her soul?) And she's far to afraid of history repeating itself with Yeon killing himself just as her son did. But I feel like we really needed more of Yeon and Taluipa's relationship to make it work. Specifically for the show to have shown how special Yeon was to her before this point. We've seen hints but not enough. If we'd seen more reapers/gumiho that work for her as contrast to how she treats Yeon that would have been great.
