The Judgement of the Perilous Captive
+ "I don't know who I am anymore." In itself I don't really have a problem with Nancy have an identity crisis. Learning the truth about her adoption and biological family is a huge thing especially with the Hudson's everything. But it being tied in to the ghost parasite causing her to change doesn't really work for me. I like the reveal that Nancy has had the Wraith literally on her back (whispering in her ear) all season, that's neat. I liked the flashbacks of the Wraith silencing her and affecting her and the worsening her negative feelings. But this refrain that she's changing (for the worse) leaves me wondering: how, and where?
Honestly I really don't get this because I don't think her actions have been completely out there or obviously caused by something else? She hasn't done anything that bad. Even kidnapping Everett isn't something I feel like she needs to be super ashamed about. She hasn't been lashing out or pushing people away. She in fact made up with her father. If they wanted us to think there was something wrong with her they should have done a better job showing it.
Giving up the list and working with Celia was to save Ace and continuing to work with Celia was to protect herself from Everett's wrath. Nick's being suspicious and not trusting her was not reasonable and we see that. Frankly the only thing that might be off is her hooking up with Gil after he was willing to kill George, and with that I just took it as a self-destructive impulse relationship with someone who had faced a similar loss of a mother, had a willingness to break laws to get things done, as well as using it as a coping method to deal with Owen's death.
I wish they'd made it more and more obvious over the course of the season that Nancy was changing because I didn't get it.
+ I loved Ryan comforting Nancy and reassuring her that it wasn't her fault Celia died. I liked that tiny moment of her stepping forward and gently holding him back when he emotionally yelled at his father after watching the tape. And I liked Nancy reaching out to Ryan and his smile when he accepted lunch with her. I love their relationship.
+ I was a little disappointed we didn't get Nancy and Ryan sharing their grief over Celia's death and Nancy trying to comfort him considering his mother just died.
+ So did The Way Back kill Celia because she had the list and/or stopped them from getting it, or did she try and use it in some way (blackmail, leverage). If it was simply because she had it why haven't they gone after Nancy/Ace again? I guess we can assume Celia gave the names up while tortured?
+ I loved Nick's take down of Jake. I loved how casual and calm and in control he was. I loved him realising he does have means and privilege now, and that he could just do what he wanted. The added pettiness of setting up a rival cafe was great. I also loved: "You're trying to make me the bad guy" / "No. No, no, no, no. You are the bad guy."
+ I love how protective George is of Nancy and her refusing to buy that there isn't a way to save her.
+ I liked the Carson/Bess scene.
+ I liked Carson getting more involved.
+ I found the Gil/Nancy team-up a little disappointing at first because I was expecting him to be helping her because he's the rule-breaking kind of guy but actually it makes complete sense he wouldn't want to go up against Everett and that she would get him involved via worry for his father. I did think the fact that she asked him to trust her and he did, even after she was so wrong about Evertt, says a lot.
+ I don't get why Everett let them play the tape? He should have asked for his lawyer before instead of after it was watched. Tamura being a cop actually makes it less believable for it to happen because he has no probable cause to force Everett to hand the tape over (regardless of what he thinks is on it.) In fact you'd think Everett would try and brazen it out and get Nancy (and Ryan) arrested for kidnapping instead. It would have been better for Nancy and Ryan to get the tape away from him, start playing it, and then have Tamura come in just as the murder happens. As is it makes no sense to me.
