Anna and the Apocalypse
Jul. 24th, 2021 11:18 pmI liked it.
+ It was a lot darker than I was expecting. Based on it being a musical comedy horror I guess I was expecting a happier ending, or at least less death. Anna, Steph and Nick as the only survivors surrounded by zombies and the future so very uncertain was pretty dark. Though of all the characters those three were definitely the most competent so I do think they have a chance.
+ I rather love what they did with John. I did not see his death coming. I thought for sure that Anna would end up getting together with him. But not only did he die but she put a firm kibosh on the idea of them being anything but friends before that. It was great! I liked their friendship but I hate 'male good guy friend pines for woman, gets her in the end'.
+ I enjoyed the musical aspect. The songs were fun and I liked how they mostly tied into plot/characterisation.
+ Anna's denial that it was the zombie apocalypse interspersed with shots of the zombie head clacking away at them amused me.
+ I liked the little moment between Chris and Lisa after they were both bitten, and Chris and Steph's sad little wave goodbye to each other.
+ How the heck did no one in Anna's sphere notice the zombie apocalypse until it was right on them? Sure, Anna turned off the radio which explains them not realising right then but there was a whole day there and a lot of other people who probably listen to the news. By the time of the play everyone should have been aware and gossiping.
+ These aren't particularly scary zombies as far as zombies go. They're slow moving, not very agile, pretty dumb and also can be distracted from living humans by videos. I have no idea how things fell apart so quickly.
