Revolution of the Daleks

It was okay.

+ My favourite scene was the talk between Jack and Yaz. I love what it tells us about Jack and his continuing feelings about the Doctor, about Companions in general and about Yaz. It was just a really beautiful scene between them. It was also my favourite Jack scene in awhile. Him opening up about his pain made me really feel for him and I liked how empathetic he was with Yaz.

"And then we lost each other. I didn't know what happened to him. If he was alive, or if I was ever going to see him again. Hard way to live. Being with the Doctor you don't get to choose when it stops. Whether you leave her or whether she leaves you."

"We're the lucky ones Yaz. Enjoy the journey while you're on it. Because the joy... it's worth the pain." I find this both so bittersweet and lovely.

+ I enjoyed the Doctor and Jack a lot. I loved the hug. I loved Jack's laughing 'they stopped at 7?' over the Doctor's list of offence. (7 thousand is definitely too small, heh.) I loved their little exchange over Jack getting to blow up the Dalek ship.

+ I loved the Doctor and Jack's initial reactions when they learned the Daleks were back.

+ Jack saving the Doctor was great because if there was anyone who had both the ability and motive to save her I absolutely believe it would be him. That said her capture by the Judoon and subsequent rescue felt strangely pointless? It had nothing to do with anything really except, I guess, to cause relationship drama with the fam. I was expecting it to have more import than it did and ended up disappointed because the whole plot felt wasted and Jack like a deus ex machina. I'd rather of had an entire episode centred around the Doctor in jail, her subsequent rescue/escape and probably some mystery happening there to solve. It would have been fun seeing her have to deal with various enemies she's faced over the years and would have been a great opportunity to delve more into the Doctor herself and where she currently is mentally.

+ I take full offence to Jack describing Rose as "a friend of hers", how very DARE they?! Jack loved her too! She was Jack's friend too! It should have been "a friend of ours" and I am deeply annoyed by this!

+ I do love every mention of past Companions, and a Rose one especially, but this explanation of his immortality felt kind of forced and weirdly expositiony. IDK, it didn't really work for me. I did like Yaz's reaction to Jack casually stating that Rose was 'trapped in a parallel universe'.

+ Is Jack's immortality partially the Doctor's fault? Cause I'm pretty sure it was entirely Rose's fault and the Doctor had no input. If there is any other blame it would be with the TARDIS as Bad Wolf but I'm very sure the revival itself was entirely Rose.

+ How did Jack even know about the Doctor's capture? Did I miss that explanation? Did the fam tell him? That would make the most sense but I don't believe it's actually addressed.

+ I liked how Ryan and Graham left. It was lovely. Ryan choosing to leave makes sense. I loved that Graham chose to leave, despite being enthusiastic to keep travelling, because above all else he wanted to be a part of Ryan's life and knew he couldn't do both. Their goodbyes to the Doctor and Yaz were lovely. I liked their final scenes were a return to their first with Graham helping Ryan to ride a bike, and I liked the implication that they were going to continue to investigate weirdness on Earth and help people. That's an excellent end to their story.

+ I was surprised that considering this was their final episode it didn't have more of a focus on Graham and Ryan.

+ A mention of Grace between Ryan and Graham in their final scene would have been lovely but them getting a glimpse of her smiling at them and wreathed in light was too much and didn't work for me at all.

+ This episode just really made me want the fam to interact with more former Companions. I'd love for Ryan and Graham to hook up with other defenders on Earth (Jack, Martha/Mickey, UNIT, Torchwood, whatever) in their post-Doctor attempts to save the world. I'd love for Yaz to get to meet some other past Companions and talk more about what it's like to be a Companion, to love the Doctor and to eventually lose both.

+ The way the show resets so hard makes me roll my eyes. How do people still not remember what Daleks are? At the very least everyone should have a subconscious revulsion and fear of them. I liked the line about Gwen taking out a Dalek. I bet everyone in the know lost their minds when the 'security drones' were unveiled and subsequently completely unsurprised when it went to shit. In fact I bet they all knew that out there the Doctor was working to fix things. It actually makes me really want an episode/book/big finish following all those former Companions, allies and others in the know during this attack. What were they doing, what were they thinking?

+ The Doctor using the Dalek SAS to take out the home-grown mutated Daleks was an great plan.

+ I hated the Doctor casually and without any regret tricking the Dalek's into the other TARDIS and then causing it to implode and disappear into the Void. The hell? TARDIS's are living beings! The Doctor adores her TARDIS. We've seen before that she's a person so why wouldn't all TARDIS's be? Plus it's also possibly one of the last few remaining TARDISes in the universe.
