SurrealEstate Season 1 Thoughts
Dec. 12th, 2021 12:25 pmI liked it.
+ The idea of a real estate company who deals with haunted houses is honestly a brilliant idea and for the most part I really liked how it was done here.
+ I liked the reveal that Luke was actually a twin who'd accidentally killed his twin in the womb just before birth and that they were still connected. That that was why he had his powers. That his twin had been haunting his life since.
+ I liked how it ended with Susan finding strength and joy in her powers for the first time and Luke losing his powers and his despair over it. It was a great contrast.
+ I doubt, if there's a second season, that Luke's powers are gone permanently. I really hope not. But him seeming to lose them for awhile and in that realising that actually he does love his ability to communicate with spirits and wants it would be good character development for him.
+ I liked the supporting cast as a whole and the friendships between them.
+ I loved the reveal about Susan's telekinetic and fire powers. I liked how they were used over the course of the season. I loved where she ended up with them. In the hypothetical season 2 she is going to be a real powerhouse in dealing with dangerous ghosts.
+ I really like the combo of Luke's ghost whisperer power and Susan's physical powers. That is a powerful team-up.
+ I liked the reveal that the portal in the Donovan house wasn't letting spirits in but rather attracting spirits to set them free.
+ I really liked Megan and Megan/Luke in the first episode and was glad that she stuck around. Their actual relationship during the season was fine. I liked them though not as much as I was expecting from the pilot.
+ It was only one episode but the Susan/Priya friendship was really well done and believable.
+ I liked that the team meeting with people from their past wasn't all happy but in a realistic way. August got to see his dead beloved wife again. Zooey finally got closure with her dead boyfriend, and got to hear from him that it wasn't her fault, she did nothing wrong and he wanted her to move on. Susan got to have a final conversation with her father, to hug him one last time and to hear him apologise. But it wasn't a tearful reunion where they worked through all their issues and said I love you. It was more closure than she'd gotten before his death but it didn't fix things and ended abruptly. And poor Phil got his mentor and only got venom for his choice to leave the Church. Poor Phil.
