It was silly but fun. I enjoyed it and would watch a sequel.

+ I was very strongly reminded of The Mummy while watching. Lily&MacGregor felt strongly of Evie&Jonathan and Lily/Frank had shades of Evie/Rick. This is good because The Mummy is one of my favourite movies and while this one isn't that good it is definitely one of the better game/ride based movies I've seen.

+ It was a little too slapstick for me at parts but I like that all the characters got to have their own moments of fail rather than there just being one comedy character. It also helped that everyone got their moments of being capable and competent.

+ Lily and Frank were surprisingly good. I enjoyed their banter and snarkiness with each other a lot. I liked the build up of them slowly beginning to be intrigued and caring about each other. In the scheme of things this movie does take place over a fairly short time period but I bought them as a couple. I loved the little moments of interest (usually with a healthy dose of sass and poking to go with it) - like when they use the video camera. I liked their shared exasperation with each other but that they quickly ended up respecting each other. I loved their end - together in London, in very great suits, off to continue having adventures. With Proxima. (And presumably MacGregor.)

+ I liked the reveal that Frank was Francisco. It was a great surprise.

+ Frank unrepentant punning was delightful. I love puns and it was a great character trait. Lily punning just for him at the end was adorable. Also MacGregor laughing at his puns was absolutely the moment he won Frank over.

+ The Lily and MacGregor relationship was lovely. I absolutely bought them as brother/sister and their care for each other. I loved MacGregor's exasperation but also resigned acceptance of Lily's antics, of Lily's never ending concern for MacGregor, and their loyalty to each other.

+ MacGregor was great and had a lot of moments I enjoyed. I loved his grin when Lily was sassing Frank just after they started their voyage down the river. I loved the look on his face when Joachim offered him tea (heh). I loved him making nice with Proxima. I loved his reaction to accidentally squishing Joachim. I loved him rudely declining the Royal Society's invitation for Lily.

+ Proxima is indeed the best cat. The CGI was rather meh at first but by the end I didn't even notice because I was too busy loving her.

+ The sequence with Joachim getting information from the bees was ridiculous and fun. It made me laugh. I loved how completely unconcerned Joachim was about it, his crew's wtf reactions and that he even thanked the bees at the end. Of course he then later murdered them but bad guy so.

"Can you ask the bee for coordinates?"
"Don’t beee ridiculous."

Heee. Frank would approve.

+ Trader Sam was great. Her noping out of the boat when it was picked up by the submarine made me laugh.

+ I appreciate that the native tribe were revealed to be working with Frank. I assume that this Tribe are the descendants of the original that saved him and really like that he kept up a close relationship with them. It must be so weird but also really neat for them to have this immortal foreigner a part of their lives for centuries. It makes me want to know more about their relationship over the years.

+ It's never dealt with in any way but I hope the arrowhead/crystal were returned to Trader Sam and her tribe as the true keepers of it. I wonder how it ended up outside the tribe in the first place?

+ I was not a fan of a bunch of red coat tribesmen being murdered. It made it strange when we subsequently get no reaction from Sam over her people's deaths (she's their leader!) And while I enjoyed the sword removing scene a lot and loved all the Native's watching like it was a show, a bunch of them died the night before which makes the whole thing sit wrong.

+ One moment that felt false was when they went down the rapids and MacGregor ended up being flung around the deck of the boat and yet we don't get even one moment of Lily freaking out about that when clearly, the over-protective big sister that she is, indicates she would have had some reaction to that! Even simply calling his name.

+ It was dumb that we hear from the conquistadors about how they can’t get the arrowhead because Lily took it away from the river - and then the next scene has her right beside the river again.

+ I actually felt bad for the conquistadors. Sure, they did something horrible in betraying the tribe and murdering a bunch of them, and also they're conquistadors, but after four hundred years, and a huge chunk of that spent in living death as stone, I feel like they should be set free.

+ The Frank/Aguirre felt like it should have a lot of weight to it but it fell short and was pretty shallow. In large part this is because the focus of the movie isn't on Frank and his past and so we only get told the backstory in a pretty broad brushstroke. It was disappointing because that would be a relationship I'd really be interested in.
