Episode 33

Okay, that didn't go how I was expecting. I was honestly a little disappointed. Zishu thought Kexing was dead and was filled with thoughts of vengeance but... learns that he's alive pretty much immediately after? Boo! This is the sort of situation you're supposed to drag out a little! At least one episode.

Not that Zishu has much time for misunderstanding since he chose slow suicide to living without Kexing. We don't get to see enough of him this episode but his complicated reaction to Kexing turning up alive was excellent. Anger and joy and relief, and grief; that one moment after Kexing arrives where Zishu's looking down and clearly struggling with the realization of just what this means for them.

I loved Kexing/Zishu. The ways they looked at each other, the passing of Baiyi, Zishu's smile after Kexing defeated Zhao Jing and Kexing's smile back all so good. Then that last scene where Zishu is so clearly angry and that aggressive face pat and Kexing's plea "This is the best day of my whole life. Don't beat me here." was amazing

I'm very annoyed that they completely skipped a) Chengling finding out the truth, and b) Chengling talking it out with Zishu and Kexing.

Zhao Jing went down a lot easier and quicker than I was expecting. I like that revealing (some) of his many lies and schemes and ruining his reputation (as he did to so many others) was the main part of taking him down. That was absolutely the worst thing they could have done to him and well deserved.

I was so happy for Kexing that he got to defeat Zhao Jing - that he beat him in their fight, that he humiliated and revealed all his crimes in front of everyone, that he finally got to speak aloud his own grief, and he got the satisfaction of not giving Zhao Jing what he wanted (death). Oh, also, I was pleased that he got the opportunity to shame everyone else for supposedly caring about his parents and then not being there to help or protect them.

I did not see Xie Wang giving Zhao Jing the medicine that allows him to control people coming. I loved him gently tell Jing to not speak anymore because "as long as you talk you can convince me". Good for him realising his own weakness. I found it interesting that even knowing Xie'er betrayed him Jing still took the medicine.

I wonder if leaving Zhao Jing alive was part of Xie Wang's deal with Kexing?

I liked that Kexing's play was to 'kill' the Ghost Valley Leader leaving only Kexing of the Four Seasons Sect behind. A symbolic killing of his past and embrace of who he is going forward. Also the fact that he actually convinced some of them that he was a completely different person for awhile there amused me a lot.

That small moments during Zhao Jing accusing of Shen Shen - when Xie Wang shakes his head, when Kexing grins and Xie Wang smiles slightly back - were great.

Xie Wang giving Qianqiao the tools she needed to be free and letting her go was great. Their relationship has been surprisingly touching.

I was very pleased that Qianqiao chose to leave Feng because he is absolutely not worthy of her but I was a little confused about it. It seemed a little unfair to ask Feng to leave for her and die in a month instead of telling him she had the cure. I guess she wanted a soulmate who would be willing to die with her? She deserves it. She should go find Fumeng and convince her to run away.
