Liebes Kind / Dear Child
Oct. 8th, 2023 10:06 pmI liked it a lot. Tense, great characters, a mystery I was interested in seeing unravel, good acting. Well done series.
+ The final episode gave me one of the biggest 'fuck yeah!' moments I can remember having recently. Jasmin murdering Rognar while reclaiming herself was so fucking satisfying. I rewatched it several times. Everything about it was perfect - from her using the piece of snow globe glass, to throwing in his face that she wasn't pregnant, she wasn't Lena, she was Jasmin each with a stab to the neck to her leaving him bleeding out as she took Hannah to the beach to even something so little as her leaving the blouse by his body.
In the lead up to the end she appeared to have fallen back in line out of fear, and watching her be so terrorized even while back home, was hard to watch. I kept thinking 'oh no Jasmin :(' and wanting her to reach out for help. So the reveal that she was planning his murder all along - and it was absolutely since the hospital since she was faking the pregnancy - was amazing. Excellent job, A+, no criticisms.
+ I liked that there was a genuine bond between Jasmin and the kids. They had some lovely scenes. The one where she freaks out and they take her to the couch and try and comfort her was so lovely. I like to think that she continued to be a part of their life going forward.
+ I think Jonathan is going to have a lot easier time adjusting to the real world then Hannah.
+ I was very frustrated by Gerd not telling Aida his suspicions over Jasmin especially after he'd agreed not to continue being lone wolf over the case episodes before and then immediately did it. He had tons of time to fill her in on his suspicions! It could have gone horrible wrong! Just dude.
+ I loved the final scene with Jasmin and Hannah on the beach. Also Jasmin asking "is it how we described" really got to me.
+ I do think Aida jumped the gun with the military base, though I get her sense of urgency, but at the same time I don't blame her for what happened to Max. 1) Max was actually the one who made the decision to take his team in after she made an appeal to his dadness. 2) NO one knew the mines were there! Even if she'd gotten through to get permission, even if they had to wait for others to come and open up, someone would have still gotten blown up! I very much doubt they would have done a bomb sweep since they'd removed all their bombs when they left. 3) They knew 'Lena' ran into the forest from one of those buildings and was fine (so lucky in retrospect!). I get why she blamed herself but I don't think anyone was really at fault except Rognar.
+ One thing I really liked was how many little pieces were left hanging, like - Hannah's birth father noping out because he has a happy family, Aida's family, Max ordering Aida out of his hospital room, the Gerd/Karin affair - we get little pieces of the characters lives as they're going through this experience but not everything gets resolved in a bow because that's life and something about how it was done here felt very real. Maybe Florian will reach out one day to have a relationship with Hannah, Max will or won't forgive Aida, but these are answers for the future.
+ I liked the conflict between Karin and Matthias's reactions to the kids and how that played out. I liked how Matthias ignoring Jonathan's existence so completely led to Karin reaching out to him. I like how the last scene with them at the support group implies that healing is happening and that they are going to make it through this together.
+ I was sad about Nurse Ruth's death. She was lovely. Hannah asking her papa if she could keep Ruth was both creepy/off and sweet.
+ I loved that little moment when Gerd finds Rognar bleeding out and holds the wound so he can find out the location of Lena's body and then lets go and watches him die. I like that in the end Gerd was able to fulfill his promise to find Lena.
+ I liked the way the series switched between the present investigation to flashbacks, and the slow way things were revealed.
+ Aida's actress looks so familiar to me. I was sure I'd seen her in something but looking at her credits nope. I wonder who I'm thinking of?
+ Wow, was Rognar taking a risk with the kids/'Lena's' lives. All it would have taken was one bad storm to cause the router to disconnect and boom all of them would have been dead.
+ It bothered me that Lena drew a picture of her dad but not her mom for her kids.
