Wingwomen aka Voleuses
Nov. 20th, 2023 11:37 pmI loved 95% of the movie.
+ Carole and Alex's relationship is absolutely delightful. I love them so much. Everything about them is perfect. Their complete loyalty and trust in each other, how very affectionate they are (so many kisses, touches, cuddling, pet names), how much they support the other, their snarkiness with each other and how at ease they are, that they make each other laugh and find so much joy in being together. I loved Carole pointing out that they weren't prepared to attack the Albanians, Alex being casually "so?" about it and Carole's response is to go 'okay' and do it for her.
I love how when Carole finally confesses her pregnancy it's very much framed as her telling her partner that she's pregnant. It's all "We're having a baby" and Alex's hand on Carole's stomach with Carole's hand over hers and then picking baby names together. It's established from the start that they are both going to be this baby's parents - annoying mom and cool mom, and it's beautiful. Although my favourite part might be Alex being bummed because she wasn't the one pregnant like she imaged because now the baby won't get her body and Carole's wisdom, lol.
+ Carole/Alex were my favourite but I also loved Sam and her inclusion into their dynamic. Alex embracing Carole after the Albanian's and then reaching out to pull Sam in was lovely. I like how Alex and Sam's relationship built from a hostile disdain to genuine caring.
+ But for all I loved most of the movie Carole faking her death, NOT telling Alex and then continuing to not tell her for four years was so so terrible and makes me really mad! How dare she do that to Alex! Why did she do it to Alex? As far as I can see there was no actual reason for it, nor for her to drag it out so long. I guess in her final speech to Alex you could say that she blamed herself for Alex's bad relationships and willingness to accept them because of her need of love and that she thought that taking herself out of the equation was for Alex's best? And then when Alex didn't 'move on'/get over her after four years she accepted that Alex would be better with her? But that is complete BULLSHIT.
I'm glad that the reunited and the last shot of the three of them and Raoule was lovely. But considering it a happy ending after a completely unnecessary and assholish four year time jump, meh. If Alex and Sam had been there to pick Carole up after her faked death and drove off into the future sure. I'm glad that Carole didn't actually die! Just everything leading to that happiness in the final moments was crap. If it had been set up where it wasn't Carole's plan from the start or where there was a better reason that they had to stay apart it could maybe work? But Carole put Alex (and to a lesser extent Sam) through emotional hell for years because ???? And she deprived Alex of the first couple years of Raoule's life. It is all such a betrayal! Plus what if Alex had actually given up? I hate everything about this.
Speaking of Sam - how long did she know Carole was alive for? The entire time? Only just before getting Alex? Why was Sam the first to know over Alex?
+ I enjoyed Sam's training sequence.
+ So Marraine is Carole's controlling and not over her yet romantic ex not just partner ex, yes?
+ The assassination of the Albanians was so pointlessly dramatic and I loved it. How was Carole and Sam do their dance number as a distraction needed at all? It wasn't! But it was fun so whatever. Also Alex being so emotional as she kills the killers of her precious bunny was a nice detail.
+ I was a little sad that Sam didn't get to use her driving ability to help in some important way though on the other hand the one she did get proving to be unnecessary made me lol.
