Top Gun: Maverick
Jan. 1st, 2024 11:57 pmI enjoyed it a lot.
+ The first movie never really made an impression on me but this one I found fun.
+ I loved the entire final mission. From the moment they left the air carrier to the moment they return I was engaged and into it. Rooster taking Maverick's advice and then throwing that in Maverick's face when they're reunited and Maverick having nothing to say to it was great. I loved getting to see more of Maverick being an excellent pilot. I loved that little moment of the enemy pilot doing a move that got Maverick and Rooster going wtf.
+ I loved Maverick showing off his superior skills while training the pilots. These young hot shots and Maverick just taking them out. I loved the scene of him running the mission parameters and everyone's reactions.
+ In general I enjoyed the younger pilots interacting with and reacting to Maverick.
+ I liked the introduction scene for all the younger pilots at the bar.
+ I liked the Iceman cameo. I like that they are each other's closest friend and loved that Iceman had been shielding Maverick his entire career.
+ I liked that Penny and Maverick had a pre-movie relationship of being an on-and-off couple rather than her being new to his life. It's always nice to see Jennifer Connolly. I liked the sailboat scene. But all the same I was kind of 'eh okay' about the romance. It was fine but was it necessary? They would have worked just as well as friends or non-romantic exes.
+ I am holding a grudge over the female lead of the first not coming back. It's bullshit and infuriating. Of course the female character doesn't matter, ugh.
+ I liked that most of Rooster's rage was over Maverick betraying him by scuttling his career and not over Goose's death which is the much more expected direction.
