Obliterated
May. 30th, 2024 11:38 pmThis was a lot of fun.
+ I generally liked all the characters and I liked them as friends and teammates. I liked that all of them were excellent at their jobs.
+ I really enjoyed the combination of them being complete fuckups/getting shit very wrong while also being damn badass and super competent. Like Paul halucinating himself saving his daughter and killing a bunch of cactuses but also actually taking out several bad guys.
+ One of my favourite scenes was Ava vs Trunk during the party. I loved that for Ava showing off her cleverness and cockiness and competence. That look McKnight got on his face when she triumphantly walked off had so much longing in it I was instantly down for that ship happening (it seemed so clear he'd been pining over her even if he wouldn't admit it, see also how as soon as he saw her arrive he was all over her, went running up like an excited puppy. I loved everything about the scene.
+ I honestly loved Lana. I loved that they took this seemingly average maybe ditzy woman and they had her kind of become a part of the team where she was actually being useful and providing essential support. It was just a really nice change. And I simply liked Lana herself. She seemed really kind, compassionate, brave, more intelligent then anyone gave her credit for. I was rooting for her to decide she wanted to join the CIA or something.
One of my favourite moments for her was when they were at the club and she wandered off to get flirty with the DJ seemingly having forgot the mission, only to reveal that she was getting them a higher vantage point and then afterwards her saving Ava's life.
So I was a little torn about the Anastasia reveal. On the one hand I love Lana and the friendships she was building with Ava and Trunks. On the other, it made a lot of sense and was a twist I didn't see coming which I liked a lot.
+ Of course the Anastasia reveal answered some minor issues I had with some character choices - why did Lana refuse to leave Trunk's side (sticking so close when hiding in a closet would have made more sense), or why did Lana leave Trunk and McKnight to go wandering after previously refusing to leave Trunks side, or why would Koslov tell Lana anything when she got in his face - none made sense at the time and then made complete sense afterwards.
+ i was shaking my head at Anastasia's plan with the nuke. Why keep it with you and make it so obvious?! But then it's revealed she snuck it into a random slot machine where it would them be delivered elsewhere. That was smart. Good plan on her part. It's just unfortunate for her that Ava is so damn observant and clever.
+ I honestly feel bad for Anastasia. Sure, she tried to blow up LAs Vegas with a nuclear bomb but in her defence she was acting in grief-filled rage! All she wanted was her brother/family and not to be alone anymore! :(
+ I ended up loving Ava/Anastasia and kind of shipping them at the end.
+ Ava revealing that she forgot McKight's name was Chad at the end end made me laugh because I also forgot. I was like 'he's role playing?' for a second there.
+ Haggerty's side quest journey through love and heartbreak in the background of the final few episodes, slightly intersecting with the main plot but never enough, amused me. I liked how it came together with Yani showing up to sing him through disarming the bomb.
+ I loved Paul's gremlin hallucination and his freaked out reactions to it. Paul being so annoyed that the bad guys were getting in the way of him shooting the gremlin - lol. I enjoyed most of high Paul.
+ I liked Gomez talking Maya into having confidence in herself and how that led to her getting herself out of the scorpion pit but also how it led to her confronting the bad guys with a too big gun, losing control and getting herself shot.
+ I liked the journey Ava/Maya went on with Maya's hero worship, then her anger and then in the end with them making up.
+ The Sharonda fight with Maya being very wtf and interfering amused me.
+ I felt for poor Trunk's desperate desire to just eat something and how it kept being thrawted all night. It all coming together with him getting his ass kicked, accidentally eating, getting his strength back and have a fight while eating was silly but also fitting.
+ I liked Langdon's unwavering support of Ava and his delighted reaction when she told him they succeeded.
+ I liked Paul's journey too of learning to step back and accept his daughter's choices. Her boyfriend seemed a bit of a doofus but one who respected Jen and was kind and a pleasant person to be around. Even in Paul's imagination Blast seemed at heart a good person.
+ Ivan Koslov absolutely got himself killed by deciding to stop and gloat instead of making a run for his sister. Ego every time.
