I liked it.

+ I liked the portrayal of grief and the struggle not only to continue on and move past it but also how not knowing important truths can make things so much worse.

+ I liked how the ghosts were portrayed in this. The way that Neve can affect things in her own vision but in reality doesn't actually affect anything (the vase) is neat. I guess that those who can see ghosts also see as they do which is neat. I liked that she could affect things physically (fire/electricity) especially when emotional. I liked how she could be physically affected by real life (a car hitting her) but without it actually causing any damage to her. I liked how when overcome by anger/rage they begin to lose themselves and become a cloud of darkness, losing themselves in the process. My favourite aspect was how the ghosts were actually constrained by the physical. To enter a building they have to go through an open door/window just like anyone else and thus can in fact be trapped places. It's an interesting take. Except when they're in vengeance cloud mode.

+ (I kind of wish we'd had more rumours of the Hall being haunted.)

+ I liked Neve. I thought the mystery of what happened to her was well done. Her struggle to deal with not only watching the grief of everyone around her but with her own, as well as her anger was engaging.

+ I really liked Neve and Alex's relationship. I loved how they found a connection and helped the other to be stronger and move past all that had happened.

+ The scene between Maria and Neve in the church was really lovely and sad.

+ I also thought the scene of Neve discovering the damage done to herself and her fear and upset over it was wonderfully done.

+ I loved that Tom trying to kill Michael led to Michael finally being able to see ghosts and thus Neve (and Victoria) finally got to face their killer. Got to look him in the eye, to confront him with what he had done, to say what they needed to say (no longer silenced!) It was great.

+ Daniel's kindness towards Tom in those first episodes was really nice.

+ I clocked William as the killer from the beginning (him being arrested in ep 5 definitely made me second guess) but despite not being the killer I found him almost as loathsome as his brother. Even ignoring that he threw Alex under the bus to save Joe the way he tried to excuse Michael's actions (and thus justify his own actions) as "a mistake, caused by grief, or alcohol" was infuriating. Murdering someone isn't a 'mistake'. Grief or being drunk do not in fact inevitably lead to attacking people and killing them! That he could make those excuses and use them to justify his own actions is appalling.

At first looking back I thought William's lack of reaction to ghost!Neve in the first episode was down to him having seen Victoria's ghost and hated him more for ignorning her scared ghost all those years ago. (Now I think he was probably the presence watching when Neve first left the lake at the start.) Only it's far worse then that because there was no ghost for him to see because Victoria wasn't dead when he dragged her to the basement and sealed her in. If he'd called the police she might have survived. He did more then cover up for Michael, he inadvertently was a part of killing her.

+ I was surprised that we didn't have Neve trying to affect things more as a way to communicate with those who couldn't see her. But then I guess having people see her lessened that need.

+ I thought Max sensing Neve and his pictures would play into things more then they did. It felt a bit like a missed opportunity.

+ I wish the show had done more with Katie and Neve and their relationship. It felt like there was no resolution there.

+ Neve and Alex not knowing each other before the party makes no sense at all. Beyond them living in a small town Alex is the daughter of Neve's coach and the cousin of her boyfriend, just how? Even if Alex had been gone for years in juvie they still should have crossed paths before then. The most unbelievable part of the show for me.

+ I find it a little strange how Alex's brother is never really addressed. We see him in flashbacks, we see the memorial where he died, but he's never actually talked about. Or at least I thought he was her brother but maybe not?
