9-1-1 Season 5 Thoughts
Nov. 20th, 2024 12:15 am+ I liked the addition of Lucy to the cast and I hope she sticks around.
I knew this was Michael's last season but I didn't expect him to be gone mid-way through! I already miss him and his interactions with Athena and Bobby.
May Day was probably my favourite episode. Bobby/May were wonderful. I loved her calling him her dad. I loved his desperation to save her and that he finally was able to save one of his children from a fire. I loved the dramatic rescue of them from the rubble and the way he was covering her with his own body. I do think they should have thrown in the background 118 firefighters in that scene too though.
I liked that Maddie and Chimney had to take a break after returning home but then slowly worked their way back to each other. I liked how their storyline played out after Chim found her.
Buck and Taylor ended pretty much as expected. I wish they'd just stayed as friends because I really enjoyed them as that.
I actually quite enjoyed Eddie's stint as a firefighter liaison to the call centre and running the social media.
The attack alpacas was hilariously ridiculous.
No one knowing that Det. Ransone was missing for five days was really unbelievable for me. I don't buy it. I don't care about how much chaos there was. I also don't buy Athena not doing any follow-up.
Bobby telling Athena that he hoped she found Jeffery Hudson first was in fact the sweetest thing I've ever heard too.
The reveal that Athena's gunshot took out Hudson's penis - fucking lol! Michael's reaction was my reaction. Love it. Good for her.
In no way do I buy Bobby choosing to return to the station when Harry was kidnapped. No freaking way. Not unless there was a major call in (believable enough considering the current conditions of the city) but even then eh.
A+ to Harry escaping the trunk on his own.
I really liked the post-kidnapping May/Harry scenes. We haven't gotten a lot just the two of them before and it was really nice.
I liked the Harry/Ransone scene a lot too.
I liked Ana and Ana/Eddie fine but I wasn't invested. Still their breakup didn't entirely work for me. Eddie was interested in and pursued Ana for himself long before Christopher came into it. Honestly it felt like it wasn't until Carla brought up him being in the relationship for himself rather then for Christopher that it became a possibility.
On Buck vs Chimney I can see both sides and felt bad for both of them. Chimney really shouldn't have punched Buck. But Buck honestly should have told Chim that he'd talked to Maddie and that while he didn't know where she was that she'd assured him she was alright. He didn't have to reveal the ER visit to reassure Chim that much and considering how hard Chimney was spiralling as his friend he should have.
I realise why Maddie was written out in the early part of the season but I was disappointed by that leading to Chimney mostly being gone too. I'd have loved if they'd say taken five minutes of every episode to dip over to Chimney and Jee-Yun's adventures in road tripping with Chimney saving a new person in a new way each time. It would have been fun.
I wish the show had spent more time in the previous season building the Maddie/May relationship and made Maddie May's mentor. I think it would have given a nice added layer of depth to May's storyline and her relationship with Claudette.
Claudette was an interesting character and I like that she was given a lot of complicated depth. She absolutely was bullying May even if she cloaked it in mentoring but she also was at times trying to help her. She also genuinely cared about her job and the people who called in, and did her best to help them. It's too bad she died I'd have liked her to stick around.
The Jonah reveal was surprising. Didn't see that coming. I wish we'd gotten more of a reaction from Lucy because it seemed as if they had become friends.
It was nice to see Chimney's former partner again.
