The Husky & His White Cat Shizun
Aug. 3rd, 2025 09:58 pmVolume 6
+ My main take away from this volume is that Mo Ran is an exhibitionist lol. The baths sex was great but then Mo Ran instigating sex while Xue Meng is in the room talking with Chu Wanning! That little shit. It was amazing. I love that Chu Wanning was filled with fury but then his only response was to slap Mo Ran (not too hard!) and then get right back into sex. Also I just love how hot and bothered they are for each other and that they keep finding themselves making out all over the place (an alley, the woods on Sisheng Peak).
+ I haven't mentioned it I don't think but I am in fact very curious about the fact that Chu Wanning keeps dreaming of his life in the alternate reality. He even ends up flashing to it during his first time having sex with Mo Ran! Why is he remembering?
+ I was amazed and delighted that this volume kept giving them chances for missed opportunities or to have misunderstandings and instead they chose communication. Wow. Finally! And just when I was expecting Chu Wanning's jealousy and insecurity about Shi Mei to cause all the issues. Chu Wanning actually hearing Mo Ran's declaration of love, of "It's always been you" when he needed it most was wonderful. Even the first time they had sex there were some perfect opportunities to throw a wrench of misunderstanding into their relationship and it just didn't happen. I don't know how to handle this, lol.
+ Meanwhile in a timeline when Mo Ran and Chu Wanning never managed to move past misunderstandings I am shaking my head at Mo Ran not realising that it was Chu Wanning who was the mysterious person in white taking care of him. He knew someone had physically been there, the person he knows wears all white most is his shizun and yet he stuck to the idea of Shi Mei's ghost.
+ Mo Ran finding Chu Wanning's initial bad kissing as "perfectly adorable" - I love how completely gone he is on Chu Wanning.
+ The flashback to how Mo Ran was finally accepted as Chu Wanning's disciple was very cute. Mo Ran trying to save the earthworms and Chu Wanning saving all of them! Mo Ran's jump for joy after being accepted by Chu Wanning! Little Mo Ran was adorable.
+ Chu Wanning choosing to stay to watch the play because he knew that Mo Ran really wanted to watch it was very sweet. As was him going from contemplating how to get tea spilled on him so he could duck out like Shi Mei to staying the entire time because of Mo Ran's enthusiasm. I also loved Mo Ran holding him from behind to prevent other people from bumping into him.
+ Another little moment - Chu Wanning buying Mo Ran a paper lantern to set on the water, like he never had the opportunity to do as a child.
+ I'm feeling slightly apologetic about Shi Mei. I glomped onto the idea that he put an affection spell on Mo Ran but since then we really haven't got much support. I ended up feeling bad for him over Mo Ran becoming distant. The five years apart and then Chu Wanning's return basically ended their close friendship and it's very clear that while Mo Ran hasn't truly felt the loss Shi Mei has. They were each other's main support for so long and were a very insular duo, for Shi Mei to lose him is sad for him. And even sadder because Mo Ran isn't actually sad for the loss too.
+ I loved Chu Wanning claiming Nangong Si as his disciple so that he could protect him and take any punishment aimed at him.
+ I also really liked Mo Ran's various attempts to protect Nangong Si (and Ye Wangxi).
+ So Nangong Xu was absolutely in love with Luo Fenghua yes/yes? And he despaired over that and tried to forget his love (and Fenghua's betrayal) and in the end couldn't and has thus done all of this to bring him back to life. My question: was part of Fenghua's revival the need for a body for him to inhabit? Because now I am suspicious about Xu Shuanglin's care for Ye Wangxi. It easily could have been him pulling strings to get Ye Wangxi to take on a male persona.
+ The reveal that one of Taxian-jun's techniques was stolen and used - 1) made me think of Nangong Xu's techniques being stolen, 2) surprise to realise that Mo Ran hadn't known that someone from his previous timeline was there, 3) confusion about who it could even be. All of my main suspects no longer seem likely!
+ I was surprised that Song Quitong died. I really thought she was going to be more important in the story considering who she was in the previous timeline.
+ I liked that the reveal about Li Wuxin wasn't him being terrible but rather giving context for why he is the way he is in a very sympathetic manner. And then he died. This was a little bit of a bummer because what I got was that he was a person with integrity and care, and the cultivation world really needs leaders like that.
+ Meanwhile Huang Xiaoyue is a little shit. The fact that he's still coming up smelling like roses while people are once again misunderstanding Chu Wanning's actions and attributing terrible motives to him is really annoying. Once again though Chu Wanning's refusal to give explanations is getting him into potential trouble. I wanted to shake him and tell him to explain that Huang Xiaoyue got Li Wuxin killed. Dude, you should have learned from Rong Yan not to keep these things to yourself! Granted he got interrupted and a lot was happening but still! People turning on Chu Wanning because they lack information is just a little infuriating.
+ That flashback with Xue Meng helping Mo Ran with his counting was sweet even if the context was really terrible. Even back then there were times Xue Meng tried!
