KPop Demon Hunters
Aug. 30th, 2025 10:51 amI loved it. I found it delightful.
+ I loved the animation style so much. It was a huge part of why I loved the movie and what made it so great. Gorgeous, expressive, fun, colourful, dynamic. A++ I loved the switches from realistic to silly anime/cartoonish because it made it fun, did such a good job of conveying emotion and was simply very funny to watch. The dancing and fighting scenes were so smooth and great to watch.
+ I loved all the girls and their friendship.
+ I love that Rumi's patterns begin affecting her voice when she starts singing lies with Golden - "I'm done hiding, no fears no lies" - her hope for the future but not her current truth and that it takes her learning to start accepting herself that brings her voice back.
+ I liked Jinu and Jinu/Rumi. I loved their first fight and his realistion that she had patterns and then the way he protected her from being discovered. I was 100% not expecting him to actually die! Him giving his life to save her was a great moment but also wait no! I love that their unexpected care for each other helped both of them be who they truly are and saved them. I am super curious about what it means that Jinu gave Rumi his soul. Does it even mean anything? Was it just a power up so she could defeat Gwi-ma? Is his soul still hanging around her?
+ I did find it a little amusingly off that after Jinu's death Rumi seemed so completely unaffected despite how distraught she was when he died. Even a little moment afterwards where we saw her a little pensive would have been nice!
+ I loved the demon tiger and magpie. They were wonderful and adorable. I loved the magpie's smugness at stealing the hat. I loved the tiger getting caught up in trying t untip the flowerpot and then later coming back up when he noticed the waste paper basket was tipped. I was really glad that they managed to escape the Honmoon and are free on Earth.
+ I love that their voices/singing creates the Honmoon, and then they use the Honmoon to create their weapons.
+ Bobby was great! I loved him and his unwavering support of the girls and the clear affection all of them share for each other.
I loved that shot of Bobby looking out the window to calm down over the saja boys and the switch to Huntrix grim expressions as they see the honmoon full of red tears
+ I think it's clear that Selene has her own lingerng issues but how she treated Rumi and her patterns was so wrong. Raising a kid to hate/be ashasmed of themselves is never the right thing to do. I do believe she loves Rumi but she really messed her up.
+ I wouldn't say there was anything I disliked about the movie but I wish the final confrontation with Gwi-ma had started differently. We have the demon forced confrontation between the girls which splits them apart, then Mira and Zoey falling under Gwi-ma's spell, followed by Rumi confronting Selene and then the next time we see the girls is when Rumi confronts Gwi-ma with her song of acceptance, breaking the other girls free and reuniting them to fight together. It was a great moment! I loved their reunion! I understand why it was done this way, to give us the surprise.
I just really think it would have been better if instead of Zoey and Mira being taken by Gwi-ma's spell we had had them track Rumi down after her confrontation with Selene and then the girls helping Rumi come to her self-acceptance by accepting her with full knowledge of her patterns and then them being a team from the start in their final confrontation with Gwi-ma. Because of how the end was structured Mira and Zoey ended up feeling very backgrounded (even though Rumi is clearly the lead it hadn't felt that way as much up until that point) and it felt to me like there was a missing scene with Rumi where we got to see her come to the realisation of what she really needed after seemingly losing everything.
+ Also I wish that Gwi-ma being defeated had been because of the girls working together.
+ Gwi-ma had an A+ voice, excellent presence, but I wish he'd been more then just a giant fire in the final battle.
+ My order of songs: Golden, Your Idol, x It's Done, What It Sounds Like, Takedown, Free, Soda Pop.
+ I love that the Saja Boys songs say exactly the truth about what they want/are planning.
+ I am so curious about the truth of Rumi's parents and how they came together and how they died.
Some moments I loved:
- The demons in the background on the plane failing to understand how Earth work. Torn between the guy excitedly making the pancake stack with the fish or the pilot exaggerated pushing of random buttons as the funniest.
- Mira scaring the Doctor and causing him to scuttle back with a wimper.
- Mira eating the popcorn Zoey is creating while they enjoy their first sight of the Saja Boys
- Bobby saying he thinks KS the salary boys seem nice but he loves the girls energy
- Jinu questioning Rumi on her pjama pants and his 'choo-choo' lol
- Rumi angrily declaring that she's everyone's type, ha
- Zoey trying to rip up her notebook in the background lol
- Zoey exclaiming how Mystery Saja is exactly her type - and then going 'oh well' and then immediately killing him.
