Till Death

I enjoyed it.

+ Emma was great. I loved her resourcefulness, quick thinking, decisiveness and her determination. I liked the little things like her using her wedding dress to drag his body around and to wrap her feet.

+ I also loved Emma's attitude. I liked how we start off with Emma in her 'normal' life and how listless and closed off and siently despairing she is every moment we see her (even with Tom) and then after Mark's death we get to increasingly see her true personality shine through. She is snarky and no-nonsense. She is not willing to take any shit. And it just takes Mark's death to immediately set her free. Like a shock to her system to force her to live again. It was great. I really loved how just very done she was with everything thoughout. Her rage was great too.

+ I loved that Emma realised immediately that Mark had something bad planned with Tom's arrival and was all about calling the police. No worrying about what the police would think. The problem with poor Tom was he just didn't understand that Mark wasn't a normal person whereas Emma knew intimately what a psycotic asshole he was.

+ I really liked the location and cinematography and the choice to shoot this in the winter. It all came together to make a movie that was very interesting and occasionally pretty to look at.

+ This isn't a comedy in any way but there were a surprising number of moments that I found amusing. Emma dropping down into the snow as Jimmy walks out and then popping up to continue after he entered the boat house was honestly hilarious (but also some nice quick thinking).

+ Mark was a complete piece of shit but I have to give him props for his elaborate fuck you attempt to destroy Emma. That was some elaborate nonsense!

+ I really appreciated that the movie didn't have Megan Fox spend the whole movie running around in her skimpy sleep clothes. That was an honestly very expected way to play it with actually in story reasoning for it, so the fact that they didn't was A+. Good for them not doing that and for only having her in skimpy clothes for minutes. I was a little 'um wait' about her having his dress shirt on while handcuffed to him but no, if she pulled it on over the handcuff and thus the shirt is inside out that works.

+ I loved the ending. I loved that Mark's body was what dragged Bobby to death instead of Emma, I loved Emma stabbing Bobby in his other eye, I loved the shot of the two men who tried to destroy her sinking into the depths, I loved her saving herself.

+ I liked that Emma reached out to the woman in the bathroom and tried to offer her advice and help her.

+ Honestly poor Jimmy. He got put in over his head so fast and all he wanted to do was rob someone for some diamonds. Family is the worst. He tried to mitigate the damage, he was clearly so appalled about what was happening and in the end he turned on his brother twice in order to save Emma. He did the right thing.

+ I can kind of understand why she didn't immediately think outside the box on how to get rid of the literal dead weight attached to her. She was looking for the obvious solutions. But also like break a mirror in the bathroom or the vase or the window and cut off his thumb! Take the back of the toilet and bash his hand into paste! So many options. That said certainly a lot of the fun was watching how she would deal with his body (amazingly tbh) so I'm willing to overlook it.

+ The other big 'issue' is something that always comes up in movies - why didn't she just kill Bobby when she had him down? Why not come down from the attic and bash his head in with the golf club while he was out? But the answer is because she isn't a killer? And a lot of people's first instinct isn't going to be murder your attacker when they're down, it's going to be escape. Not her fault he came to so quickly. Emma's a fighter and we know that even just from her backstory with the fact that she saved herself by stabbing Bobby in the ear with her keys. So it took her a bit to move to murderous, it's fine.
