Culprits Episode 8 Thoughts

Overall I liked the series. I do think the final episodes didn't quite live up to the rest of the series unfortunately but overall I was satisfied by the end.
+ Aww I'm sad Officer died. I was hopeful. At the same time I'm not mad at her death. Azar (much like Dianne) lost her entire family and while I don't think Malick can be blamed on Officer she was absolutely a major factor in Youssef's horrendous death and I think a part of me has been waiting for this. If she was going to die, for me, this was probably the best way it was going to go. Also it happening just before learning her real name felt rather appropriate. At least she didn't suffer and probably didn't realise what even happened before she died.
+ I liked the parallels we unexpectedly got here between Azar and Dianne. When I saw Azar's face while Dianne was killing Hawkes that is when I was like 'uh oh'. I liked Officer but I'm not mad at Azar. How galling must it have been to watch Muscle and Officer walk off, all buddy buddy, as if only days earlier Officer hadn't gotten her grandfather murdered. Of course seeing Dianne getting her revenge would push her that last step to wanting her own revenge.
I was annoyed Azar didn't get the chance to kill the Killer. I felt like that was a closure she needed. Her murder of the innocent man left me confused about what to feel about it but I think it was actually essential for this moment and choice she made. Because of that she has now killed before this moment. Because she killed someone innocent why would she hesitate about killing someone responsible? Plus his death added to her frustration in not getting her revenge.
+ One little elephant in the room is that if you consider it as a whole Dianne and her revenge scheme is in part responsible for both Yosseff and Malick's murders. Not even just the heist either. If she had simply murdered Hawkes after the heist all of them would have survived. I can only think that she didn't kill him was because she a) wanted to watch him suffer, and b) wanted his box. At least she seemed okay with losing the box so maybe it really was just the first option.
+ I liked that the show ended with a shot of everyone in the heists end - the dead bodies of all those killed, and then seeing those living. I like that Azar joined Dianne and her group, and that hopefully she's found herself a new family.
+ One disappointment with Officer's death was that she and Joe were making up! This last episode laid the groundwork of forgiveness and moving forward. Joe was showing care for her and was clearly forgiving her for her betrayal (as he should!) and she was actually opening up to him with the offer to tell him her real name. It was so sad.
+ I'm glad that Jules welcomed Joe back into his and his children's life and they got their happy ending.
+ I was expecting the betrayal to be a double betrayal where Joe and Dianne had worked it out to lure Hawkes to come in himself but sadly she was clearly taken by surprised.
+ I don't think Joe needed to kill three of the guards when he took Hawkes hostage. He had him hostage.
+ I have a really hard time buying that Dianne didn't know the heist crew was being hunted down. In fact I just straight up don't buy it.
+ The wig was nice but why exactly did Dianne need to wear the wig?
+ I found myself fascinated by Fixer this episode. The fact that he alone was still working for her, and not just working but was a high level and trusted was just interested. I was pretty sure about my theory on her sister and a part of me wondered for a moment if he was her sister's husband and he had teamed up for revenge with her, explaining his loyalty and her trust in him. But no. He's just a really trusted person that works closely with her. Which just makes me disappointed that we hadn't got more of him because I love powerful dangerous boss/loyal competent second dynamic, especially with the rarer configuration of boss=woman, and I feel like we got a glimpse of it and then nothing which is unfair, lol!
