Scott Pilgram vs. The World
Jun. 12th, 2011 10:13 pmI finally got around to watching Scott Pilgram and I loved it. It was hilarious and bizarre and different. It did take me a little while to get used to because it really was very different from any I’ve watched before. But at the same time I was grinning and laughing even as I was going 'wtf'. This was the funniest movie I've watched in awhile.
* I loved all the characters. Scott and Ramona were interesting and I liked both of them. The supporting characters were various degrees of likable. And I was very pleasantly surprised by how many female characters there were.
* My favourites characters were Knives and Wallace.
- Wallace is Scott's gay roommate and he was hilarious. He wasn't in the second half of the movie near enough. He's played by Kieran Culkin, who I've never actually seen in anything, and he does a perfect deadpan face. I loved him.
- Knives is Scott's new high school girlfriend at the start of the movie and around the time that she dyed her hair she won me over. Which made me even more worried about where the movie was going with her. In the end I loved what the movie did with Knives.
* The final battle showdown was excellent.
- I loved the Ramona/Knives fight.
- I liked Ramona and Knives working together to defend Scott from Gideon.
- I loved that while the first time Scott fought for love after his epiphany he fought for himself and self-respect.
- I loved that after Gideon kicked Ramona down the stairs we see both Scott and Knives looked pissed. And then they fought Gideon together, in sync, and kicked his ass. What for a second looked like it would annoy me - Scott defending Ramona from Gideon - instead became awesome.
* I loved the final scene between Knives, Scott and Ramona. I really liked how that played and that no one was made to be the bad guy.
* I loved that Scott realised that he did in fact cheat on both the girls and that he apologized to them. And that he apologized to Kim as well.
* I liked the Roxie/Ramona and Roxie/Ramona/Scott fights but I was a bit let down by the Roxie/Scott one. I didn’t love that she was defeated by Scott touching her on one of her erogenous zones.
* I was disappointed that we never got a Ramona/Envy fight. I was expecting one.
