Hang on to Yourself
I really enjoyed this episode. There were a bunch of changes but I like the new direction the show is taking.
+ Holy crap. I didn't see Jai's death coming. I wanted them to make Jai interesting to watch again - and in that short scene at the diner with Annie he was, I liked him, I was intrigued, and I have always enjoyed his friendship with Annie - and now I'm sad he's gone. That is if he really is. It appears so but I can see some wiggle room for him to have faked his death. If he is dead I regret that it happened just when it looks like he was going to get a good storyline and if he's not I hope he doesn't turn out to be a bad guy. I'd love for him to turn up at the end of the season.
+ I wish we'd gotten more of a moment of Annie dealing with Jai's death itself - as the death of her friend and her mourning him.
+ It looks like the show is going to do a season long mystery - with Annie and Auggie's new assignments being connected - which could be very interesting. Also the fact that Annie's assignment with Simon is a long-term one not a one off is new and I like it.
+ I wasn't sure at first about Annie's transfer but I like Lena and Annie's relationship with her is quite different for her one with Joan. I like how much more freedom Annie is given. A part of me feels like this is all going to be an object lesson for Annie - that she'll get in over her head, that Lena won't be the great boss she appears and she'll end up back working for Joan - but for now I'm liking it.
+ I was surprised by Annie jumping into the shower with Simon. They foreshadowed it with Lena's bit about how her unit is different from the rest of the CIA and doesn't discourage female agents from sleeping with assets but I didn't see it coming. It felt a little... off to be honest. Kind of out of character. Is it just a combination of Jai's death in front of her with the freedom of her new assignment that's propelling her along?
+ So wait who killed the German tourist spies? Simon? Lena? If Simon did does this mean that he's on to Annie?
