The Vampire Diaries 3x22 Review

So next season - Elena transitioning into a vampire, the Mystic Fall Council once again a threat because they know the truth now, Klaus possessing (?) Tyler, dark Bonnie... I'm excited. And glad I didn't get around to finishing the season until now because I don't have to wait months until the next episode.
I'm Torn
• Elena is a vampire! I knew it was going to happen eventually but I'm not sure about it happening now or how it happened. It's not really how I want Elena to become a vampire. Personally I wanted her to choose it and for Katherine to be her 'sire'.
• Elena's phone call to Damon.
- Elena being truthful about Damon's question (re: him or Stefan) was unexpected. I mean there was a chance he was going to be dying within the next hour but she was completely honest with him.
- "No matter what I feel for you I never un-fell for him." - Elena Of course she didn't. She never will. But eventually she'll fall in love with Damon as well - and never un-fall for him either. ...and then they'll collectively get their shit together and live together happily forever after as they should.
- I'm really glad that Elena brought up Caroline and Tyler because they're her friends and this isn't just about Stefan and Damon. She has other people she'd want to say goodbye to.
• Damon met Elena first.
- It didn't entirely work for me. Damon didn't feel like season 1 Damon and the whole thing was very anvilly.
- I don't know that Elena physically meeting Damon first is going to mean anything, or should mean anything, because regardless of that Stefan is still the one who showed her how to live again after the accident. That is why Elena fell in love with Stefan not because she saw him first.
Loved/Liked
• Damon's reaction when Alaric died in his arms. "No! You are not dead. You are not dead." Perfect.
• Ghost Alaric visiting Jeremy. "I will always be here to look after you Jeremy. You'll never be alone. I promise." Oh, Jeremy. Does this mean ghost Alaric will be hanging around?
• Elijah returning and then NOT DYING! Yay. I was so sure when he showed up that he was going to die.
• Stefan saving Matt and leaving Elena to die because that's what she wanted. I loved the juxtaposition of Stefan saving Elena during the first car crash and then leaving her to die at her urging (to save someone else) during the second.
• Rebekah's grief when Alaric staked Klaus and the way she tried to save him/attack Alaric, even though it was hopeless and suicidal, instead of running to save her life. She really did love him so much.
• Rebekah/Elijah holding each other in the woods. Also Elijah's "He's my brother" to Elena. Because it's all about family.
• Caroline 'smothering' Elena after the hospital. I love them.
• Dark!Bonnie - I hate magic addiction storylines but Bonnie getting her own storyline might just make up for that depending on how it plays. "I'm done getting pushed around by all of you. I did it because I wanted to. ♥ More please!
• I actually loved Jeremy (and Matt) kidnapping Elena to take her away from everything. Jeremy doing everything he can to protect his sister even if it meant going against her wishes, just as she did for him, is great.
• I liked the flashbacks and loved seeing Jenna again.
• "Perhaps that will finally teach him some manners" - Elijah The best part is how he starts readjusting the place settings in front of him when he says this. Hee. Also it appears both Elijah and Stefan have similar thought processes when dealing with their unruly brothers.
• Damon on the phone during the conversation with Elijah. "No. No, no, no, no." lol poor Damon stuck in a car so far away as his loved ones once again make bad decisions. I love that Damon was included in that scene.
Other
• I'm disappointed that Klaus really is the originator of everyone's bloodline. I was really hoping for it to be Elijah.
• I'm assuming that Bonnie stuck Klaus in Tyler because she needed a hybrid body to put him in. But she also clearly didn't need Tyler to be right there when she did it so why not dump Klaus in one of his other hybrids instead of a friend?
• So during the Caroline/Tyler goodbye scene was that still Tyler or was it already Klaus? The first time I watched I of course thought it was Tyler but upon re-watching it still really seems like Tyler. The line about his mother doesn't seem like something Klaus would say? But then Klaus is already dead and Tyler was just with Bonnie so I think it's very likely he could be Klaus. If he is it does put a completely different spin on that scene.
• I'm surprised that Rebekah didn't save Matt. She liked him (and they were sweet together). It would have made sense, to me, for it to have been Kol on the bridge instead.
• So who's blood did Meredith use on Elena? I'm hoping Caroline.
• Everyone is going to be so pissed off at Rebekah. I literally can not think of one person who will be on her side. Damon is probably kicking himself for saving her life. Elijah and Klaus are going to be super mad though for different reasons. Matt may have liked her a bit but she killed Elena and left him to die so I'm sure their cuteness has gone up in flames. She and Caroline had a moment at the school but Matt and Elena are Caroline's friends so that's not going anywhere.
• I love Elijah and I think he truly does have the best intentions but Elena seriously needs to never make another deal with him. They never go right.
• So I loved the entire end of the episode except... why couldn't Stefan save Matt and Elena? He's a vampire. It would have taken no effort for him to unbuckle Elena's seat belt, grab each of them by an arm and then drag them both to the surface. He should have been able to save both of them! This bothers me so much. It could have been easily solved too by Stefan freeing her, taking Matt at her request, her swimming for the surface but drowning before she could make it. Her drowning in the car did not work.
• Knowing that evil vampire Alaric is running around I can't believe they a) didn't have a big sleepover at the Gilbert house where he couldn't get any of them and b) that no one thought to tell Liz & Carol that someone they think is an ally is now an evil vampire. These are both very common sense and I am shaking my head at all of them.
