Penance

• Nolan/Emily are ♥ as always. The fact that he would basically sacrifice his company for her is kind of mind blowing. And amazing. I love them.

"... if it could potentially hurt the only real family I’ve ever had." - Nolan On one hand - awwww! But at the same time – what? Did the show just forget about his beloved aunt?

Of course when it comes to Emily Nolan seems kind of narrowly focused. See early in the episode when he says to Aiden: "It wasn't enough to pilfer my only friend?" This is of course false because Jack is also his friend. So this episode gives us Nolan discounting/ignoring his relationships with both his aunt and Jack and making Emily the only important person in his life. Interesting.

• It struck me when Nolan learned about Jack's impending marriage to Amanda via Ems phone call that the Jack/Nolan friendship has been ignored lately. When was the last time they had a scene? And wouldn't Jack want to share such big news with his friend?

• I'm sad that the potential between Emily and Amily still hasn't appeared. During the scene with Mason even having Emily say something like "Trust me to protect us" or similar would have meant so much. I want them to be real partners or friends so much!

• When Mason decided that all the clues added up to Emily and Amily being ex-girlfriends I lol'd and then really, really wanted Emily to run with that for a couple episodes. It could have been so much fun!

• I loved Emily's take down of Mason. Framing him for framing Conrad and then forcing him to confess and go to jail for a crime he didn't commit - genius.

• All the Victoria/Conrad stuff was rather unexpected. I never would have thought there could be any real reconciliation between them but now I'm not actually sure. There was a lot of Victoria/Conrad emotion happening in this episode. There's them deciding to go against the Initiative which positions them as partners by choice. There's Conrad's whole speech to Kara about framing David because he was stealing Victoria and the fact that he tried to take all the blame for what happened to David. The emotion he showed seemed real, and I've always believed he loved her more than she did him, but who knows. As another reason for why David was chosen as the fall guy it makes sense. There's them holding hands when they thought they were going to die and then that last scene where he kisses her on the head and reassures her.

One episode ago I wouldn't have believed they could be a believable couple again but... I kind of am now? I can see the possibility. I also find myself really interested in Conrad and his feelings for Victoria.
