Bones 6x23 ‘The Change in the Game

The episode itself was... okay I suppose, if meh as a finale but that final surprise reveal left me dissatisfied and even kind of angry.

- The revelation that Brennan and Booth are having a baby should have been a really big ‘yay’ moment. When Brennan told him I couldn’t help but think of the end of season 4 and Brennan wanting to having a child (with Booth) and how that ended up just getting dropped or of the 100th episode when Booth confessed his love and kissed Brennan and she turned him down. Those were two moments that they could have used to move Brennan and Booth’s relationship from UST to RST in an interesting or satisfying way. Instead we get – this. And I am really unhappy about it.

They did so well with the UST in the beginning of the series and I could have still been happy even with them dragging it out for so long, long past when they should have, if they had just given us a good payoff. I didn't expect that asking for us to actually see it instead of being told was too much. We get – Booth comforting Brennan on his bed and holding her into a fade to black, the revelation that they apparently slept together, them acting cute but basically the same as normal the next episode and then the revelation that they’re having a kid. Uh, what? WHAT the hell was THAT?! Ugh. This is what they have been teasing fans for six years about? They decided to tell us about them getting together instead of showing us? Why? Why the hell would they do it like this? I mean I'm not even sure if they were pretending it never happened or had been secretly dating since the last episode. I'm very disappointed in how this played out.

- I’m feeling very disgruntled BUT I did find Brennan and Booth cute this episode. The cheek kiss at the bowling alley and how it played out was adorable. I loved that. I like how enthusiastic Booth, and especially Brennan, got about going undercover. I loved Brennan’s smiling “Fine” when Booth told her that she could be his girlfriend. I also loved his huge grin when she told him she was pregnant and her smile back. That was sweet.

- While I loved how excited/frantic Brennan was about Angela giving birth in the beginning and that Brennan she was determined to be there for the birth (telling Booth he had to have an excuse ready for her to leave) it ended up just making it more annoying that once she was actually undercover it didn’t seem to matter anymore. She did end up getting to the hospital in time but she didn’t hurry there when she got the call that Angela was in labour despite the fact that she wan't actually needed at the bowling alley. It bothered me.

- While some time has passed since the last episode I found the lack of a mention of Vincent and his death weird. Especially since this was the first time we saw another assistant since his death. Why wouldn’t Wendell have said something? I mean that could have been him if the rotation had been different!

- The reason for Brennan and Booth to go undercover was the flimsiest excuse ever. In the end they didn’t even need to! The team figured out the murder weapon and then Max told them who rode a motorcycle. That annoyed me too.

Chuck 4x24 ‘Chuck vs The Cliffhanger’

- I enjoyed this episode and for the most part I really liked how it ended. I love the idea of Chuck and Sarah buying the Buy More and Castle and setting themselves up as freelance spies. That’s actually a really awesome idea. Hartley giving the two of them Volkoff Industries (and thus making them billionaires) plus the blackmail material on the government pretty much assures that they can do whatever they want (within reason). I just really love that idea.

- The ‘goodbye’ scene between Chuck and Casey was a thing of beauty and I adored it. From Casey’s impatient and thus briskly honest “Shut up. You’re Chuck Bartowski the second best spy I’ve ever worked with and now you’re going to go and save the best.” (awww!) to the fact that he’s had foolproof fake identities set up for them just in case for years (and undoubtedly himself as well) to his final words to Chuck “You do whatever it takes; you save her.” It was awesome. ♥ It reminded me why I used to really OT3 them. I also loved Casey’s enthusiasm about joining them in their new spy venture and seeing them stand together in the background planning their new lives. Oh, and Casey’s so happy little smile at the wedding was just... it made me smile. He was so happy for them!

Also Casey having those identities ready, for a couple years, means that somewhere in season one or two Casey got things ready to be able for himself, Sarah and Chuck to disappear. And now I really want to read that story.

- “Mrs. Chuck Bartowski.” – Chuck / “Mr. Sarah Walker.” – Sarah. I liked that.

- It was great to see Zondra and, especially, Carina again. I hope they show up next season. Maybe they can join Chuck and Sarah’s new freelance spy team.

- I wasn’t really pleased about Morgan getting the Intersect. At this point Chuck being the Intersect is so integral to who he is, regardless of whether he needs it or not, that it’s just wrong for someone else to have it while he doesn't. Plus Morgan being the Intersect is just too similar to Chuck in season one.

Also more importantly isn't there something special about Chuck that makes him able to be the Intersect? I've been under the impression that not just anyone can be the Intersect. If the show wanted to go this way, someone else as the Intersect, instead of Morgan I'd have preferred Ellie. Now that could have been really interesting.

- Morgan’s “As you wish” amused me. You cannot convince me that that was not unintentional. It was totally a reference to The Princess Bride. Also he amused me when he called Sarah “Mrs. B”. Heh.

- I don’t know what I think about Decker telling Chuck that everything that had happened from the pilot had all been part of a plan. I guess I could see it being the government or someone in the government covering their tracks – using Chuck to find Orion and take out Volkoff and gain control over the Intersect technology – but I don’t know what else that plan could detail or who could be behind it.

- They never really did explain how Sarah survived when it's killed everyone else immediately but I suppose distance makes it less potent and Vivian was too far away?

- I really hope that Hartley picked up his awesome mother before he and Vivian disappeared.

- So is Mary going to be joining Chuck’s new spy venture? I can’t see any reason why she wouldn’t. Hmm. Actually I can see her taking over Volkoff Industries for Chuck, she was Volkoff’s right hand for twenty years, and turning it into something better. After all the money is great and all but it is a business and that does have to be dealt with.

- Aw to General Beckman helping the team any way she could – giving her key card and sending Chuck back the Intersect. I am a bit surprised that she took the risk and that she managed to pull it off. Also surprising is that the government sold the cover and secret CIA base under it at all. I mean – what? And if they had to sell it shouldn’t they have done more to take it offline than simply remove everything not bolted down?
