Olympus Has Fallen
Apr. 10th, 2013 09:19 pmNot bad, a good action flick.
+ I still don't buy the bomber getting that close to Washington, not even with it being a stolen American plane, but the actual take over of the White House was actually fairly believable. It was clearly well-planned and the fact that Kang had former secret service agent Forbes working for him helped the believability.
That said the men standing on the lawn and roof shooting at the bomber made me shake my head. In that fight I'm pretty damn sure the bomber is going to win - and oh look it did. There were a whole lot of pointless deaths happening there. Also the agents running out the front even as the men in front of them are being shot down. Possibly that would be a sign to take cover, yes?
- The bomber randomly shooting up the streets and park was unexpected but actually a good idea as it definitely caused a ton of confusion and disarray.
+ It was pretty brutal with the violence. Banner's signature move seemed to be stabbing people in the head which was unexpected.
+ The SEAL assault on the roof made me shake my head so much. That much stupidity annoys me. The General's overconfidence is believable I guess and I know people make stupid decisions all the time but, god, is it annoying to watch. Once they knew about the Hydra they could have easily backed off so that Banner could take it/the guards out and then tried to land. It would have taken minutes and then they would have had a force in the building!
- Also I was annoyed that the helicopters weren't recalled after the first or even the second one went down. It was obvious that they were outclassed.
+ I liked the Connor escape sequence.
+ Banner and Asher making their way out of the front of the white house at the end was a bit unbelievable. I mean we're supposed to believe that teams wouldn't have been sent in immediately after the helicopter blew up and if not then then the minute they learned the president was injured and alive and the white house was cleared? I realise they wanted a triumphant moment for the heroes but it didn't work for me.
+ There were a couple moments that didn't work for whatever reason - the shot of the Korean's taking down the burnt flag and throwing it over the side, for instance. It was just too... melodramatic or something for me.
+ I realise Speaker Trumbull wasn't expecting to ever be in this type of position but he was pretty indecisive and hesitant. It was disappointing.
+ It's a really small thing but I loved that there were a couple of women among the Korean attackers - only three but still! One pretend security agent who gets shot at the beginning during the taking of the white house. The second a sniper who Banner takes out with a head shot a couple minutes later. Third was Lim, Kang's tech person. She commits suicide on the helicopter diversion and I really wish she'd stayed with Kang instead.
+ I liked Defence Secretary McMillian and her fighting back and that she survived.
+ The president's speech at the end made me roll my eyes so much.
+ I really liked the interactions between the Asher family and Banner at the beginning.
