Fringe 3x10 Thoughts

• I loved getting to see the Observers again. My immediate reaction to seeing them all over the previews was ‘yay, Observers!’ It feels like too long since we last saw them. I love how well they set everything up and I like that they had multiple reasons. They were testing Walter in order to see if he would be willing to allow Peter to go to his death but I think Walter was right that they also saved his life.
• Considering that Walter’s serum’s purpose was to increase his intellect/brain power (or... something like that?) I was definitely expecting it to do something to Peter’s brain that would end up paving the way to what we saw on the page. I guess it could still play out that way. I would like for there to be some further consequences.
• I really loved the PTB exploring the unintended consequences of Walter saving Peter more. We’ve seen the big ones – the universes breaking apart – but to see the smaller butterfly affect – Peter catching a firefly, a little girl going out that night to catch one because she didn’t catch the one she was meant to, her father going out looking for her and getting into an accident in the rain, and unintentionally killing Roscoe’s son, which leads to Walter’s favourite band breaking up – and how directly this specific instance of it affected Walter personally (and other people personally) was wonderful. I loved it. I want more of that. Peter has been affecting the Blue universe in exactly that way since Walter brought him back – little unintentional moments that set off an ever expanding wave of change.
• When Roscoe was explaining about forgetting what his son felt and smelled like, and how it felt to be around him I knew that we were also supposed to be seeing Walter in him. Most of the episode was full of Roscoe=Walter scenes but it was in this scene specifically where I found myself thinking of Walternate. Because it also works as Roscoe = Walternate, even more in fact, and I really want the show to explore that. Right now Walternate is mainly ‘the bad guy’ but Peter is his son, who he lost, and that pain is as much a part of him as it is Walter and Roscoe.
• “He’s not human. You can’t expect him to think like us.” Hmm. When was it decided that the Observer’s aren’t human? I mean, they can travel in time and they’re behaviour is rather ‘inhuman’ but when did they decide that equalled an intelligent life form other than human instead of say – future humans, or something?
