Living As a Man... That’s the Way It Is
• I was happy to get some Dal Ja/Seon Joo friendship. I’ve felt that the latter half of the series has been lacking in them. I loved that it was Seon Joo she chose to go to in order to rant and I loved Seon Joo following her to the hospital and most of all I loved her grasping Dal Ja’s hand tightly between her own when they thought it was Tae Bong lying in the bed. Oh, and when Dal Ja gave Sae Doo advice later she tells him exactly what type of food to bring Seon Joo showing that while she has been seemingly entirely caught up in her own anger and irritation over Soo Jin she was paying attention to Seon Joo as well.
• “If it were me I would have stepped on her there and then.” – Seon Joo LOL. It’s funny because it’s true.
• Dal Ja hitting Tae Bong made me laugh – I’ve been waiting the entire series for that! It’s a Korean drama – it has to have the heroine hitting the hero. I’m pretty sure it’s a rule.
• I loved them sleeping in the same bed this episode. This bugs me to a ridiculous degree – are they still having sex and how often do they share a bed – so it’s nice to see. I really loved Dal Ja’s confession that she loves him. Of course he was awake and heard it.
• Poor Sae Do. This was a tough episode for him. This episode had him twice running to his BFF Dal Ja with his worry/freaking out. I love them. I also love that Dal Ja once again gave him good advice (ask Seon Joo) – and then he doesn’t take it. Oh, Sae Do, he always makes things harder on himself. His “What the hell” when Ki Joong gave him advice on dealing with Seon Joo’s father made me laugh.
• I loved the Dal Ja/Yeom Shin and the Jung Ae/Tae Bong conversations. In the former I loved Dal Ja’s support of Tae Bong and his dreams and in the latter I loved the insight it gave us into just why Jung Ae doesn’t consent to their relationship as well as the background it gives us into Dal Ja’s relationship with money. It made both of them so much more understandable and sympathetic.
• Ki Joong being so complimentary and offering Dal Ja a job was really nice. He’s now so sweet to her and so obviously still likes her that I keep feeling sorry for him.
• I really wish that Dal Ja’s initial reaction to learning that Tae Bong went back to the law firm, or at least her immediate second reaction after the smile/relief, was for her to actually talk to him about him giving up his dream and if that really is what he wanted to do. She did bring it up later in the episode and I really liked how that conversation went but I wish it had been sooner. Still Tae Bong actually convinced me that he was happy or at least he’s content with his new plan. Being a lawyer was something he really didn’t want to do again but I bought it when he told her “I’ve felt lighter than I felt before” because now he’s making Dal Ja happy and removing her worry (both money-wise and for his health) and that’s enough for him. Plus he’s not giving up on his dream but instead is simply moving the timeline a bit – work a well-paying job now, don’t have to worry about money, save money and then quit and pursue his dream. I liked him giving back the cooking lesson money and telling her to save it and he’ll take it back in a couple years.
• “Let’s do it together this time, okay?” They’re not just roommates now, they’re partners. I really like that.
• I loved Dal Ja winning over Tae Bong’s grandfather and father. And I loved her buying the cooking lessons for him earlier in the episode.
• It was really nice to see Shin Wook react to Yeom Shin’s whining and pouting over Dal Ja with a smile and amusement. Wow, that was a really quick turnaround. When he said he was planning on being a better husband he wasn’t kidding was he? I mean he even ends up moving back into the bedroom after years of sleeping in his office instead. It seems to me that he’s completely given up on the idea or rather the ideal of Jung Ae he’d been holding onto for their whole marriage. Actually it has to be more than just that. For him to say to Yeom Shin “Let Dal Ja have your father’s love. Instead, from now on, I’ll be the to treat you well” and mean it indicates to me that despite his coldness towards her he did have feeling for her and that he does like her ‘loud, drama queen, bitching’ attitude to some degree.
• I find Dal Ja’s glee over money and the trappings of money – Tae Bong’s status as a lawyer, the amount of money he makes, the new car – a bit embarrassing. I think it’s that she is just so open about how much she loves it. It’s certainly very in character and has been a part of her character from the beginning and I also think it’s completely understandable and believable that money would be so magical and important to her (especially after Jung Ae’s description of what it was like for Dal Ja growing up) but still – when she pets the car and smiles (and similar things) it makes me wince. Especially when she does it in front of Tae Bong.
• Aw, she used the money to make an actual room for him... I was a bit surprised about the bed because I was expecting an office but then he doesn’t sleep with her all the time, or maybe even often, so I guess it’s not a surprise. Also she’s clearly making a space just for him.
• I have no problem with Tae Bong working for the lawyers handling the merger of Dal Ja’s company, nor even him working on the case itself (... though, awkward). It’s very soap/drama-ish but it’s not like him not working there would help in any way. The merger has nothing to do with him. What it does mean is that if Dal Ja does end up laid off then they’ll have his high-paying job to fall back on until she manages to find a new one whereas if he wasn’t a lawyer again then they’d probably end up taking money from his family.
