I started watching Attack on Titan and then I couldn't stop. It's so good! I haven't been this immediately drawn into an anime in a long time. I've just been zooming through the series over the last couple days.
- I love the 3D Maneuvering Gear. It's so cool. It looks amazing.
- I didn't like Eren at first. I found his temper and impulsiveness irritating and I just had no patience with him. But I loved his determination and reolve during the maneuvering gear training and that was the start of him becoming one of my favourite characters.
I've loved Mikasa from the beginning. Quiet, super-compatent, intelligent and loyal. I like Armin well enough. He's really grown on me over the series. I love the three of them together.
- Episode 5 definitely had one of the most WTF moments I can think of. When Eren was eaten (after losing an arm and a leg) it got pretty loud in the house. I couldn't believe that the show would kill off it's main character but for the life of me I also couldn't think of how he was going to get out of it. Even though it was 1:30am I ended up watching the next episode because I HAD TO KNOW! Instead I spent a couple episodes going 'and now Mikasa is going to go ape-shit and cut him out of the Titan!' or 'and suddenly the Titan's stomach bursts open and Eren appears!' When the Eren Titan appeared I knew right away that it somehow had to be Eren even if I didn't know the hows and I thought it was awesome.
- I loved that Eren and Mikasa murdering the kidnappers when they were nine was brought up in court because that was a pretty crazy situation. That little flashback was almost as shocking as Eren being eaten. He just straight up murdered two poeple, granted horrible people, but he didn't care at all! I wonder if that attitude at such a young age was because of what his father was doing to him (with the whole titan thing)?
- One of the issues I keep having is knowing who characters are. There are just so many of them and I have problems with connecting names with some of them which makes it harder. Two instances stick out:
In episode 5 I found myself annoyed when Eren's squad was killed off because there was a black-pigtailed girl who I remembered seeing before but whose name I didn't know and it really bugged me that she died before I knew her name. When it was mentioned that she was Mina in the next episode I actually said outloud 'Mina! Thank you!'
The other was with Marco. See, either I never caught his name or I never connected 'Marco' to the character who I called 'freckles'. So when he died I didn't realise it was Jean's friend 'freckles' who died! Not until Jean was remembering him at the funeral and then I was all 'no, freckles!'
Also I only just learned that Krista's brunette friend is called Ymir.
- Basically everything to do with Sasha during the training episodes was excellent. She was fun and I enjoyed watching everyone reacting to her. My favourite moments were actually with Mikasa - Sasha looking pleadingly at Mikasa's bread and then Mikasa eating it (lol) and then Mikasa covering for the Eren/Jean fight by blaming it on Sasha (I loved everyone else trying to hold in laughter).
- As a character Sasha is actually one of my favourites. She's scared a lot but she's stronger than she thinks. Her leaping down the wall to save one of her teammates in ep 4 sticks out. I also loved her determination and refusal to give up. I love her love for food (her stealing some to share with everyone else was kind of adorable.) She ended up kind of sidelined, but then she's only a supporting character, and I'm hoping that in the remaining episodes she gets something interesting to do or has some nice moments with the others (especially Mikasa). I'm crossing my fingers that she isn't killed.
- Hange/Eren were kind of adorable in ep 15. When he understood where she was coming from and wanted to hear about her experiments and she got all blushy and then enthusiastic over it I immediately wanted them to become friends.
- I like to think that Annie joined a different regiment, likely Military Police since she was a top ten, because it is her own way of helping. She is smart and she knows that the Military Police Brigade is Eren's enemy and I like to think that in a couple episodes she's going end up crucial in helping our heroes because of her position in the 'enemy' camp. Exactly as she planned.
- I loved Armin working out what was going on with the Female Titan.
- It seemed pretty obvious to me why they would want to enter the forest of giant ass trees. It makes everyone who didn't immediately connect 'giant trees = using 3D Maneuvering Gear' look a little dumb. That said I didn't realise that Erwin's plan was to capture the female titan until the end so...
- I'm guessing that the Female Titan is Eren's mom, yes? I mean Dr. Jaeger experimented on his son so what's to say that he wouldn't have experimented on his wife as well?
