Agents of Shield 2x08 Thoughts

I loved the team breaking into the Australian base. The set up to the mission was great. Skye helping Tripp into his vest was a small background moment but I loved it. Another small moment - Skye rubbing Fitz shoulder in support at one point. I loved Skye with her team of hackers. I loved Trip saving Fitz and then Coulson and Fitz saving him.
So, so glad Trip survived. I was honestly worried they were going to kill him off.
"We've been through some crazy. You two especially. But the whole time Coulson has been our anchor. He may seem lost sometimes but he's always got a plan." I loved Trip defending Coulson. He is just 100% loyal.
I love that the Doctor started working with/for Whitehall in order to get close enough to kill him for revenge. That is so much better as motivation then what we were given before.
I loved Jemma fangirling over Peggy.
I still don't know which truth I believe about Ward's childhood. Christian confessed, sure, but he did it under heavy duress. Who wouldn't say whatever their captor wanted in order to avoid death? It sounded good - that is believable as motivation and genuine all around - but Christian is a politician and we got a look at his lying in his opening scene. Both brothers are manipulative and good liars. So which truth is actually right? I have no idea which to believe.
I very much doubt Ward is joining Hydra because he's loyal to them or believes in their cause. Based on his view of himself, of his lack of loyalty to them pre-reveal and what he said to Skye in the last episode he's probably joining up again to play spy and help take them down from the inside. That said I still find Ward super creepy. His conversation with Skye at the end of the last episode was just - eugh. Plus Ward's actions feel less motivated by wanting to take down bad people and make amends for past wrongs (see: Mike Peterson) and more about wanting to get back into his team's good graces.
Mack seems really, really spooked about Coulson and the whole situation at SHIELD. I'm actually kind of surprised at the turn the character has taken because for most of the season he's been very solid, easy-going and unflinching. Then in the previous episode we saw him freak out about what was happening with Coulson. Now in this episode he is seriously questioning Coulson's ability to lead. I wondering if this is leading him to turn on or leave SHIELD? I hope not because I like him.
It's interesting to compare Mack's reaction to others. He approaches Hunter secretly to discuss the situation but Hunter reacts by brushing his concerns aside. He doesn't really care. I think if Coulson did turn out to be an alien it'd throw him a little but then he'd go along as normal. I really don't think Mack would. Then there's Trip, who is not as new but is also not one of the original team, who is reacting to everything with loyalty and complete trust and belief in Coulson.
Loved getting to see Peggy again. I like how she dealt with Whitehall and her refusal to work with him.
Still really like Bobby. Her run-down of Sunil's background/motivations was a great scene. I also liked her interrogation of Sunil.
 I find Hunter/Bobbi very boring.
I wondered if Dichen Lachman's character was Skye's mom and I love that she turned out to be. I wish she'd survived somehow.
A part of me wishes that this episode happened while Trip and Skye were dating or there had been UST between them because the set up - Trip shot, Skye unaware and continuing the mission, her dad using/saving Trip - would have been great.
