Episode 4

• The most interesting part of the episode was actually the Young Jae/Hye Woo scene at the bar. I have really liked that Hye Woo has gotten a point of view but this scene changed how I viewed her. I’ve known from the beginning that she sees him only as a friend, as someone that will always be there, and I figured that there was a part of her that enjoyed/relied on Young Jae always being there for her and putting her number one but that she might not know the extent of his feelings for her. This scene, to me, seemed to indicate that she was aware of his feelings, that she does rely on him and that she wants nothing to change. That is for him to always put her number one and be there for her, while not reciprocating.

She tells him - “No matter what I do I’m more special and important to you than anyone. Don’t forget it. Forget then I won’t forgive you.” It’s very selfish (but very human to want to keep it). The question-answer portion of their talk was also interesting – he answered easily enough that he knew her longer, it was more difficult for him to tell her that he liked her more than Ji Eun (but was sincere) and, interestingly, when she asks if she is more important/special to him than Ji Eun he doesn’t answer. Not that I don’t think that at this point his answer wouldn’t have been the same as the previous ones but it’s interesting he doesn’t say it.

• This episode begins the true start of Ji Eun and Young Jae both beginning to see the other as something more. For Ji Eun – she learns that he gave her manuscript to his manager, she learns that he want to the Amusement Park for her (despite his denials), he takes her back to the amusement park after it’s closed and takes her skating (even though he sucks at it) and while there they share an actually serious/sincere conversation, and finally he buys her a present. For Young Jae – he sees her passion for her writing and it does get to him but most of his advances are things we see in the things he did for Ji Eun during the episode (the present, the amusement park, waiting for her after the work lunch, being actually sensitive about her feelings on writing) and the way he reacts to her a couple of times in the episode (like at the rink – there’s one point where she’s talking about how it feels to know people will be reading her stories and he gives her this look).

• I was left aghast with how uncaring Ji Eun and Young Jae were of maintaining their deception. He leaves her on the side of the road, he kicks her out of the house, she tells a publisher that they’re separated... You guys are doing it wrong! I feel

• The show totally missed the opportunity to get a moment between them when he lay in bed after skating, hurting. She should have been in there placing the warming patches on his back with both of them being awkward and for the first time seeing each other in a sexual light.

• The skating scene was pretty excellent. I loved her taunting him not only as he did while he taught her to ride a bike but with the same words.

Episode 5

• This episode was really about two things – 1) Young Jae and Ji Eun continuing to bond and 2) Young Jae’s continuing love for Hye Woo. Both of them took big steps forward in this episode. Young Jae and Ji Eun spent even more time bonding and more importantly their feelings for each other are beginning to change. We see it in Young Jae’s reactions – when Ji Eun apologises for losing his gift, when he plans to take her to dinner and get her a new one, when he takes her for ice cream to make her feel better and they play at the park having fun together, when he’s home alone after she leaves again and when he invites her to the movie. We see it on Ji Eun’s side as well – how upset she is that she lost his gift, her inability to buy a replica to replace it because it doesn’t feel right, in how happy she is both times he takes her out, in how long she waits when he stands her up, and most especially in her decision to continue to wear her wedding ring. The Young Jae/Hye Won relationship continues to be interesting and now we have advancement on the triangle as Ji Eun finally clues in that there is something between them.

• Young Jae is so contrary it’s become rather amusing. He can’t allow himself to compliment Ji Eun or show he cares for her and we got so many examples in this episode. I loved his casual announcement to his manager that he was going home for dinner and then his furious backtracking when she reacted with amusement and the implication that he wanted to go see his wife. I also loved how he called to tell her he’d be late, argued that he wouldn’t return early and then the next shot is of him at home, early. Then there’s how he was going to lay a blanket over her when he found her asleep at the desk but as soon as it appeared that she was waking up he threw it away. The fact that he gave her a casual compliment about being pretty and then immediately negated it (even though it was clear that he meant it). Then there was the amusing scene where when she reacted with glee to a food selection for dinner he immediately tried to find something she wouldn’t like. Heh.

“She’s small and she yells a lot.”
“And still you want to go home to see your wife.”

• When Ji Eun said “I won’t be missing anything.” as she kicked her ‘friends’ out I mentally cheered. It is about freaking time. They are so horrible – so selfish and self-absorbed and they were at an all time horrible in this episode. Her cleaning out the fridge of fruit and making a huge mess, him going through their bedrooms and trying on Young Jae’s clothing and then get upset and offended when Young Jae gets upset with them. Hopefully this will mean the last we’ll see of them but I’m doubting it. In fact I think that the papers are going to be printing some tell all information soon. Sigh. I did really like how Ji Eun defended Young Jae.

• Why don’t guys know that a pretty girl isn’t everything? – yikes, harsh, grandmother!

• I’m not sure what is going on with Min Hyuk but I definitely don’t love him like I do Ji Hoo which was something I worried about so I’m happy there. He is an interesting character though. He can be really harsh both in work (him on the phone, his critique of her story) and in his personal life (telling Hye Woo she doesn’t love him but just wants to possess him and his general attitude towards her). But he can also be given – seen in his first scene with Ji Eun, and when he gives her a chance with her writing, and taking her to find a replacement gift. He definitely doesn’t feel like a stereotype and I’m really enjoying that. His relationship with Ji Eun is the most interesting to me. I like that he does appear to like her but that doesn’t stop him from being brutally honest about her work. In fact his harsh critiquing of her work is him supporting her and trying to help her be a better writer and that’s nice.

• I feel like the show should be positioning him to be a possible suitor for Ji Eun but if so it’s been very slow going. We got more scenes in this episode that kind of make it seem as if they’re going in that direction. I think the fact that he’s learnt that Young Jae is paying her to clean is going to come into play. Perhaps it’s what is going to convince him that their marriage isn’t real and as such he can make a play for her? Min Hyuk planning on buying her a replacement recorder for a gift was a move in that direction – or at least a move towards making them friends. And while in the end it didn’t happen it could have been very interesting to have seen Young Jae’s reaction when he learnt the truth about it and the symbolism with that could have been interesting too.

• Ji Eun and Young Jae’s continuing blasé reaction about their ‘contract’ and reality of their marriage hitting the papers is driving me crazy. So now they have two copies of the written contract, Ji Eun’s male ‘friend’ snoping around their house and learning that they sleep in different beds (not to mention them knowing about her running away multiple times including just before the wedding), Ji Eun telling Min Hyuk that Young Jae pays her to clean (I can’t believe that deal is still on) and most especially Ji Eun losing her recorder on the train – a recorder that she talked about her true feeling for Young Jae on. This is seriously stressing me out so I don’t know why it isn’t them! There is going to be this huge scandal, I can feel it. (And I am not looking forward to it)
