The Amazing Race and Fringe Thoughts
Dec. 6th, 2010 11:43 pmThe Amazing Race 17x11: This was actually a very relaxed episode. Once Nick/Vicki missed the plane it was obvious that they wouldn’t catch up and I was able to relax. I actually didn’t mind Thomas/Jill at all this episode. I even liked them. They are strong competitors so if they won at this point I actually wouldn’t mind that much. I would still vastly prefer that Nat/Kat win. Then Brook Claire, and then Thomas/Jill. Brook/Claire were getting on my nerves with Brook yelling Claire to come and then their little passive-aggressive bit about which detour to do. Them not reading the clue properly and taking the cab also really annoyed me because they just did that a couple legs ago. You’d think they would learn. The speed-skating detour was amusing.
I did not like how the preview for the finale was all ‘ two all-female teams against the lone guy, can history be made’. Um, remember Jill? She’s very much a part of Thomas’s team!

• I feel like I should have a lot to say about the Peter/Red Olivia plotline and/or Olivia returning but I don’t really. Poor Olivia is going to be so heartbroken when she learns what happened between Peter and her alternate self. Regardless of how Walter tried to frame it as all Red Olivia’s fault and that Peter couldn’t have known a part of me disagrees and thinks he should have. It was so obvious! I think I’m still holding some anger at him about it. Maybe a lot. I keep thinking about him telling her that ‘the changes in her’ were good changes. I’m already wincing at Olivia’s reaction over it all.
• Broyles, no! I loved Alt Broyles. I really was not expecting him to die and it makes me all sad. Poor, Broyles family.
• I really want to know what happened to Broyles. Was he killed at the Harvard lab when the soldiers arrived or was he taken prisoner? Was he injured and later died of his injuries? If he was taken alive back to Walter what happened between them? Why was Broyles sent across – was it a punishment or was it perhaps a way to get rid of evidence so Walter could spin any story he wanted about Broyles disappearance? Was Broyles alive or dead when he was switched with Olivia? And why did he die and Olivia was fine?
• I want to see Olivia’s reaction to his death – he helped her and died for it. Actually I’d like to see both Olivia’s reactions.
• Why did Olivia think this time she would succeed in crossing over and then stay crossed over when previously it didn’t work? Actually why did it work this time?
• I really hope this isn’t the last we see of the Red Universe. I want to see red Olivia re-adjusting to being back on her world. I wonder if she’ll find things very much changed in her absence. I think it would be very cool if Olivia found herself having doubts, and eventually working against Walternate and his plans. I mean Olivia and Olivia saving the universes together would be awesome! Also I really want to see more of Charlie and Lincoln. I had been hoping that they would have been involved somehow in helping Olivia escape.

There were a lot of moments that hit my embarrassment squick, mostly having to do with Jae Joon but overall I really enjoyed it. I love that Soo-Ji >>>>> Everyone was pretty much the subtitle of the film. She was competent and awesome, and kind of a mess in her personal life but everyone needs flaws. Plus her propensity to lose it completely because of personal reasons equalled Jae Joon’s amusing tendency to go from mild to rage freak-out in 10 seconds.
This was a very funny movie and most of it had to do with Soo-Ji and Jae-Joon’s interactions. I loved the reoccurring theme of them bickering in front of the police. Jae-Joon’s fight with the Russian bad guy (Mikael?) in the war museum place was hilarious. The little Officer Jang/Dr. Roh bit at the end of the movie amused me too.
I loved that there were multiple woman in this movie – including that Soo-Ji’s boss was a woman and that the main bad guy turned out to be a woman. The Sonja/Soo-Ji(/Jae-Joon) fights were well done.
I liked Soo-Ji/Jae-Joon (and he got pretty hot after three years). I liked how they loved each other so much but that there was understandable conflict in their lives. I liked how they had a scene at the end showing how they’d become partners. I got a very Agent 99/Maxwell Smart feel from them.
I loved the credit scene with Soo-Ji in the Won-Seok role, and Jae-Joon as her assistant, and her facing off with a new female employee. Also her proving one final time that she is in fact the best.
